Amoda Tea is a Canadian premium tea subscription. Each month hand-selected teas are sent out, from all over North America and beyond. They source the tea from small companies to support them and help them grow. There are two flavours of box available — the original and low-caffeine. This is a review of the original box. Both cost $20, have free shipping to Canada/US (no international shipping yet), and you can also add on some extra bonuses like a travel set, a teaspoon, or more filters if you are a tea-drinking monster like me. They also have a tasty tea guarantee — if you don’t like a tea in your box, they’ll replace it in your next box!

Last month I got a cute tea print postcard, and I was happy to see another one this month! Perfect for penning a note to a tea-loving friend.
I really like the simplicity and clarity on the information sheet. May focuses on lighter flavours and first flush teas, so I’m excited to see what they’ve picked!
Along with the four teas, we also are sent a dozen disposable tea filters.
Sea Breeze — Sea Breeze is an herbal blend, which means it’s naturally decaffeinated. Herbal teas also make really good iced teas! This blend contains ginger, mint, and apple. I am not a big fan of ginger so I didn’t keep this myself, but Amoda recommends icing it and I think it would be super refreshing that way.
Penninsula High Tide — A white tea infused with peaches and cream. This is more up my alley! It smells amazing, like fresh peaches and sunshine. It reminds me of summer. I think this could be delicious either hot or cold! White tea is low caffeine.
Emerald Spring — Green tea and I have a complicated relationship. I really only reach for it when I’m out for sushi and they offer it, because it’s a bit more high maintenance to brew. It has a grassy scent to it, and I definitely get the wildflower vibe they mention in the tasting notes!
Manaslu Spring Tippy — I’m definitely excited that Amoda included a first flush tea in the May box! First flush refers to the first harvest of the leaves — they’re brand new, freshly grown, and have a lighter flavour than the later harvested teas. Again, you want to be a bit more careful brewing first flush so you don’t lose that light flavour. Black tea can be enjoyed straight, or with a bit of cream and sugar.
I was still enjoying my teas from the April box when my May box landed, so I’ve been rotating through everything with the exception of the ginger tea. I love that Amoda Teas is really about exploration and trying teas you might not choose for yourself. Even if I might not like a tea, the experience of trying it is still really fun and opens my eyes to how many different kinds there really are.
