White Plague by James Abel ($6.71)

In the frozen waters of the Arctic, Marine bioterror expert Joe Rush races to save a submarine crew from a lethal threat…

“The pleas for help stopped coming just after five in the morning, Washington time. The Pentagon staffers cleared for handling sensitive messages sat in horror for a moment and then tried other ways to reach the victims. Nothing worked so they called the Director, who phoned me.”

In the remote, frozen waters of the Arctic Ocean, the high-powered and technically advanced submarine U.S.S. Montana is in peril. Adrift and in flames, the boat—and the entire crew—could be lost. The only team close enough to get to them in time is led by Marine doctor and bio-terror expert Joe Rush.

With only thirty-six hours before the surviving crew perish, Joe and his team must race to rescue the Montana and ensure that the boat doesn’t fall into enemy hands. Because a fast-approaching foreign submarine is already en route, and tensions may explode.

But that’s the least of their troubles. For the surviving sailors are not alone on the sub. Something is trapped with them. Something deadly lethal. Something that plagued mankind long ago, when it devastated the entire world. And the crew of the Montana has unknowingly set it free. Now, Joe and his team must not only find a way to save the Montana and her crew, but stop a lethal horror of apocalyptic consequence from being unleashed on all humanity.

A race against time and a mysterious harmful thing… this sounds like a page turner! I imagine this might be like Dan Brown’s Deception Point, which was great. I’m looking forward to getting to know the main character, Joe Rush, perhaps I’ll be seeing all of his other adventures too. I love being introduced to a new author and character that have other books available so I can get the full fix.

The Fifth Heart by Dan Simmons ($10.55)

In 1893, Sherlock Holmes and Henry James come to America together to solve the mystery of the 1885 death of Clover Adams, wife of the esteemed historian Henry Adams– member of the Adams family that has given the United States two Presidents. Clover’s suicide appears to be more than it at first seemed; the suspected foul play may involve matters of national importance.

Holmes is currently on his Great Hiatus–his three-year absence after Reichenbach Falls during which time the people of London believe him to be deceased. Holmes has faked his own death because, through his powers of ratiocination, the great detective has come to the conclusion that he is a fictional character.

This leads to serious complications for James–for if his esteemed fellow investigator is merely a work of fiction, what does that make him? And what can the master storyteller do to fight against the sinister power — possibly named Moriarty — that may or may not be controlling them from the shadows?

I’ve been watching the BBC’s Sherlock and have fallen in love with the character so much so that I’ve recently started reading The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes so adding him to a new novel is making my nerdy little heart skip beats.

This month’s selections are some of the best I’ve seen from this subscription. I’m looking forward to a new twist on Sherlock Holmes and a new arctic adventure. BookCase.Club brings good books to my door for a wonderful price. If I tried to grab two books a month on my own, I’d spend more than the price of this subscription and I’d waste a lot of time picking only the authors I know. I love that once in a while I’ll see a name I recognize or a book that I have read but normally I’m getting introductions to new authors and new characters. Thanks to BookCase.Club, I’m not a one-author reader any longer. Please keep up the great work!

Have you tried any of the BookCase.Club subscriptions?
