Beyond Redemption by Michael R. Fltecher ($7.13)

Faith shapes the landscape, defines the laws of physics, and makes a mockery of truth. Common knowledge isn’t an axiom, it’s a force of nature. What the masses believe is. But insanity is a weapon, conviction a shield. Delusions give birth to foul new gods.

Violent and dark, the world is filled with the Geisteskranken–men and women whose delusions manifest, twisting reality. High Priest Konig seeks to create order from chaos. He defines the beliefs of his followers, leading their faith to one end: a young boy, Morgen, must Ascend to become a god. A god they can control.

But there are many who would see this would-be-god in their thrall, including the High Priest’s own Doppels, and a Slaver no one can resist. Three reprobates–The Greatest Swordsman in the World, a murderous Kleptic, and possibly the only sane man left–have their own nefarious plans for the young god.

As these forces converge on the boy, there’s one more obstacle: time is running out. When one’s delusions become more powerful, they become harder to control. The fate of the Geisteskranken is to inevitably find oneself in the Afterdeath.

The question, then, is: Who will rule there?

I’m all about books with a huge conflict that needs to be resolved. The back cover gives so many scenarios and along with them questions that will need to be answered. I’m looking forward to reading this book to see who will win the should be god over and who will rule in the after life. As a firm believer in creating your own destiny within your thoughts, I’m intrigued to see how the writer is going to make me questions myself and push me to grow.

Zero World by Jason M Hough ($10.78)

Published in rapid succession, Jason M. Hough’s first three novels, The Darwin Elevator, The Exodus Towers, and The Plague Forge, earned mountains of praise and comparisons to such authors as James S. A. Corey and John Scalzi. Now Hough returns with a riveting near-future spy thriller that combines the adrenaline of a high-octane James Bond adventure with mind-blowing sci-fi speculations worthy of Christopher Nolan’s Inception.

Technologically enhanced superspy Peter Caswell has been dispatched on a top-secret assignment unlike any he’s ever faced. A spaceship that vanished years ago has been found, along with the bodies of its murdered crew—save one. Peter’s mission is to find the missing crew member, who fled through what appears to be a tear in the fabric of space. Beyond this mysterious doorway lies an even more confounding reality: a world that seems to be Earth’s twin.

Peter discovers that this mirrored world is indeed different from his home, and far more dangerous. Cut off from all support, and with only days to complete his operation, Peter must track his quarry alone on an alien world. But he’s unprepared for what awaits on the planet’s surface, where his skills will be put to the ultimate test—and everything he knows about the universe will be challenged in ways he never could have imagined.

This sounds like Jason Bourne meets Doctor Who and I am ready to jump into a new adventure. I would judge this book by the front cover and just know it is my type of read. I was a bit intimidated by the size of this novel but I think it will be nail biting, page turning wonderful.

With BookCase.Club, it’s a miracle that my family has clean clothes or dinner every night. I love getting books, even though they are a bit older delivered to by door. There is something awesome about having others pick books for me because its impossible to get bored with new authors each month. I was a little sad that this month I was back to one paperback and one hard cover but that’s okay too. Another great thing, in my opinion, is there are only 2 books and I can normally finish them before the next box comes unlike a few subscriptions that have 4 or more books. I can’t wait to see what shows up next month and to see how quickly I can get through these two novels. I like a good challenge!

Have you tried any of the BookCase.Club subscriptions?
