Ann Williams Monthly Craft Box has four age groups to choose from: 6 to 8-year-olds, 9 to 12-year-olds, teens, and adults. This is a review of the TEEN subscription.

Craft Crush Dream Catcher Kit ($29.99) I couldn’t find an age group on the box but according to the website it is for ages 13+. I went ahead and tried it out myself and I want to warn you – I am not very crafty. According to Ann Williams, “it is a dream to make.”

Everything was included with the exception of scissors.

I followed the included instructions. There are some how-to videos on the Ann Williams site but unfortunately they didn’t have one for this particular craft. I learn by watching so I think it would have affected my outcome if I had been able to see some of the crafting in action.

The instructions were easy enough to follow, however, I have no real craft base to draw from so some of the techniques were a bit hard for me to follow.

For instance, I’m not sure I made my “stick” tight enough, but when I tried to make it tighter it ripped. I also ran out of brown yarn, so there are parts that are not covered. It also didn’t say to save three pieces of yarn to tie the “stick” to the hoop, so I used the gold thread instead.

I also couldn’t get the feathers the way I wanted them to be, hanging straight down. My application of the gold thread also left a lot to be desired.

Here is the finished product. I think this might be better for a person who isn’t easily frustrated and has a good grasp of crafting techniques. My cats liked it and tried to “help” me by batting at whatever was hanging down while I worked on it. It took me a couple of hours over several days to complete this project.

Craft-tastic Teeny Ojo de Dios Kit ($5.99) This craft says it’s for ages 6+ and Karina had time on Easter to sit and make one ojo de Dios (which means “God’s eye”). Again, the instructions weren’t on the website but tutorials can be found readily enough on YouTube.

The directions were clear and there is enough yarn and sticks to make 8 ojos, which can be made into a necklace or left as is. I love the bright colors of the thread!

I let Karina, my 13-year-old, make this and she didn’t need any help.

Here’s the finished product! I like that Karina was able to do this on her own and thought that the ojo was cute. You could certainly buy more thread at the craft store and customize the colors used. I wonder how long it would take to make a huge ojo with chopsticks or kebab sticks?

Well, I tried my best with the dream catcher but in the end I didn’t care for the result. I did like the ojos and was glad that it was easy enough for my daughter to do without any help. This subscription is great if you have a crafty kid or just want to get them away from their iPhones for a while. It would also make a nice gift for the holidays or a birthday or just because! Ann Williams makes their own crafts and promises that no two shipments are ever the same. If you decide you really love a particular craft and want to give one to a friend then you can purchase extras in their online shop.

What do you think of these crafts? Would your teenager enjoy doing these projects?
