My Thrill Club is a subscription for fans of thriller and horror movies and books. Each month, subscribers receive two books and one DVD in the realm within the realm of thriller and/or horror. When you sign up you can pick Crime & Mystery, Thriller & Espionage, Horror, or Surprise Me.  I’m an avid reader so I love getting new books to try and finding new authors to read. This month I got the Crime and Mystery box!

The Burning Room by Michael Connelly ($9.46 paperback) – I count Castle and Bones as some of my favorite shows of recent years and this book sounds a lot like one of their episodes. I love watching, listening to and reading procedural dramas and this looks to fit the bill.  My Thrill Club sent us a hardback book so it has a great feel to it and depth.

In the LAPD’s Open-Unsolved Unit, not many murder victims die almost a decade after the crime. So when a man succumbs to complications from being shot by a stray bullet nine years earlier, Bosch catches a case in which the body is still fresh, but all other evidence is virtually nonexistent.

Now Bosch and rookie Detective Lucia Soto, are tasked with solving what turns out to be a highly charged, politically sensitive case. Beginning with the bullet that’s been lodged for years in the victim’s spine, they must pull new leads from years-old information, which soon reveal that this shooting may have been anything but random.

The Son by Jo Nesbo ($12.27 for paperback) – Oh this one reminds me of Prison Break and I loved that show. I can’t wait for the revisit that will be coming up this Spring. While I have heard of Michael Connelly I have never heard of Jo Nesbo and I can’t wait to check out his writing and see how this story unfolds.

Sonny Lofthus has been in prison for almost half his life: serving time for crimes he didn’t commit. In exchange, he gets an uninterrupted supply of heroin—and a stream of fellow prisoners seeking out his Buddha-like absolution. Years earlier Sonny’s father, a corrupt cop, took his own life rather than face exposure. Now Sonny is the center of a vortex of corruption: prison staff, police, lawyers, a desperate priest—all of them focused on keeping him stoned and jailed. When Sonny discovers a shocking truth about his father’s suicide, he makes a brilliant escape and begins hunting down the people responsible for his and his father’s demise. But he’s also being hunted, and by enemies too many to count. Two questions remain: who will get to him first, and what will he do when he’s cornered?

We Own the Night (Blu-Ray) ($6.99) – I’m excited to watch this one. This is one of those movies I remember seeing being released but it came out when my first son was being born so I never made it to the theater to see. I love all the actor in here and we are going to put it in one night this week with the nasty weather we are expecting.

What if your own family stood in the way of everything you worked for? Bobby Green (Joaquin Phoenix) has forsaken his name to escape his family and their tradition in law enforcement to pursue his ambitions as a Brooklyn nightclub owner. As he turns a blind eye to the drug dealers around him, he comes face to face with the family he abandoned when his brother (Mark Wahlberg) and father (Robert Duvall) crack down on the club. Now Bobby must choose a side. Is he going to turn informant or will he help run the biggest crime ring in New York history?

My Thrill Club is a really great subscription box. Getting two novels and a DVD/Blu-Ray each month is a great way to really get into a theme explore new authors and books.  I like that they sent hard back books since I love to really sit down and dig into actual books on paper and read. These novels and the movie are a bit older so they will fill in the holes for ones that you might have missed the first time around. I can’t wait to read these and my husband also said he wouldn’t mind checking these out to so its a great box for both of us.
