Sci-Fan Block is a monthly sci-fi & fantasy geek subscription box. It’s part of the Nerd Block family, and every month you’ll get 4-6 epic items plus a custom sci-fi themed t-shirt.

This box has been updated now to Sci-Fan Block! Boxes will now contain both sci-fi and fantasy goodies.

Sci-Fan Block now has the Nerd Block Magazine.

DEAL: Save 15% on the first block  by using the code HELLOSUB16 (enter this after hitting the green review order button).

There are interesting reads inside the magazine. This one features items that were turned into time machines…

…while this one features 7 of the best creatures from Supernatural.

The centerfold contains the item list and their description.

Everything in my February 2017 Sci-Fan Block!

Supernatural Belt: We absolutely love Supernatural and the Supernatural pentagram emblem is a fantastic choice for the belt decoration.

On the downside, it’s just a sticker slapped on to the belt. I felt that more attention could have been paid to creating a really fantastic item. On the plus side, this belt was REALLY long. I think my husband had at least 2 feet extra to play around with, so it was sure to be sized large enough to fit everyone.

Hellboy Companion Trade Paperback ($8.15) While the MSRP on this book is $14.95, you can easily get it used for about half that. For that reason and the fact that it was purposefully bent in the box, I wasn’t crazy about it, except I do love Hellboy.

I feel like the WWIIxSteampunk vibe of Hellboy makes it a franchise that’s just ripe for remakes as a film – but I’d find it hard to see anyone besides Ron Perlman in the headlining role.

Hellboy and the BPRD: 1954 – Ghost Moon # 1 is out on 3/8 and I can’t wait to get a look at it – this book is a good refresher.

Alien Chestburster Apron: Chestburster is quickly becoming a subscription box thing, and it’s sorta delightfully gory on an apron!

I feel like we need to make sure this is worn the next time we’re prepping Juicy Lucy’s (cheese stuffed hamburgers). Chestburster in more ways than one! It was a little on the thin side and I’m not sure how it will do being worn next to the grill.

Ghostbusters Slimer Lime Gelatin Funedibles Vinyl Figure ($15.94) This was a variation item – subscribers received either a Lime Jello Slimer or a Marshmallow Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man (surprise).

This item confused every single member of my family – every single one of us thought it was some sort of actually edible treat when we looked at the box!

This is actually a really cool and well-made figure but I think it would have made more sense if it wasn’t so accurate? Like Slimer as a pizza or hamburger?

He’s so cute and not scary at all!

You get more of the lime jello mold feel from the back side.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer T-Shirt (!) I’m a huge Buffy fan (who isn’t?! and also – look for lots of Buffy merch coming up in subscription boxes over the next few months or so – we’re celebrating BTVS 20th!).

I’m a fan of both the Movie & the Series (and Angel and anything Joss Whedon) but I digress! This is an awesome design! The retro tattoo style is perfect – and who doesn’t want to be in the Slayers Club? The quote on the bottom is from Showtime, an ep from around the middle of the final season.

A $10 voucher to the Nerd Block shop was also included.

For me Sci-Fan picked winning franchises and a few winning items, but the curation/creation of the items themselves was uneven this month. I think that may be due to the fact that all of the items at least seemed to be officially licensed instead of merely inspired. We did wish that the belt was an amazing diecast buckle but it doesn’t mean it hasn’t already been proudly worn!

What did you think about the February Sci-Fan Block?
