Pixel Mandoo (the Jindo) is on the move to K-snack infinity and beyond!

Happy New Year from SnackFever! This month the team is highlighting some new year’s traditions such as sae-bae (showing respect to elders with a new year’s wish and bow), tteok-guk (rice cake soup – sliced rice cakes represent coins or prosperity for the new year), and yut-nori (traditional game). Our word of the month is 새해 (sae-hae), new year.

Lotte | Butter Coconut Biscuits: This is a buttery shortbread cookie with a hint of coconut. My mom used to love these, so we had them in our house a lot growing up. Her favorite way to eat these was to dunk them in a cup of coffee.

Crown | White Heim Hazelnut Cream Wafers: If you’ve read any of our Snack Fever reviews, then you’ll remember these since they are a favorite in the boxes. This is a wafer cookie filled with a hazelnut flavored white cream. So yummy!

Lotte | Cereal Choco Bites:  Cereal bites filled with chocolate and enriched with calcium. Is it breakfast or a snack? Who cares because it’s so good! These were a great midday snack, and they fulfilled my chocolate craving.

Haitai | “Free Time” Chocolate Bar: OMG! The first time I had this bar, I fell in love. It’s a chocolate bar with pieces of chocolate cookie in it. It reminds me of a fudge covered Oreo… all I was missing was a glass of milk.

Haitai | Green Grape “Jadu” Candy: This is not your grandma’s hard candy. Another Snack Fever favorite, these are full of real grape flavor. My dad was super excited to see these in the box again.

Jayone | Chicken Macho – Fantastic Wasabi: OK, I’m going to admit it, I HATE wasabi. It’s in the same family as horseradish, which I can’t stand either. So, even though I like Chicken Macho snacks, I had to pass on these. I was told these were good; nice crunch and good flavor.

[Brandy says SO good!]

Crown | Tteokkochi Chips: These chips are a throwback to the popular Korean street food. They are slightly sweet with a fair amount of spice. Tteokbokki are long rice cakes cooked in a gochujang sauce. Tteokkochi uses a similar rice cake; however, the cakes are lightly pan seared on a skewer and the gochujang sauce is brushed over them. The skewer makes them easy to eat on the run.

Paldo | Pororo Strawberry Drink: Over the past few months, we’ve seen several flavors of Pororo drinks come in our Snack Fever boxes. This month, we get the strawberry milky drink. My niece drank this. She liked it but felt it was overly sweet, especially when compared to some of the other flavors.

Ottogi | Jin Jjamppong (Spicy Seafood Noodles): Here’s a little twist on our favorite jin ramyun – it’s a spicy seafood flavor. My dad claimed these as soon as he saw them! This is packed full of heat and seafood flavor. Great for a cold day.

Ottogi | Instant Rice: Want glutinous rice without having to wash it or wait 20 minutes?!? Pop this in the microwave for 2 minutes and you’ll have a perfect bowl of rice ready to eat. Get the banchan to have a complete meal.

Nong Shim | Tempura Udon Cup: I love tempura veggies, and I love udon noodle soup… So, this should be a match made in heaven. I can’t wait to dig into these. I hope I’m not disappointed.

Crown | Maple Walnut Puffs: Seriously, these are the largest and crunchiest puffs! I felt like I was eating breakfast as a snack. The sweet maple flavor with a hint of walnut lightly glazes each puff for a yummy bite.

Jayone | Roasted & Seasoned Seaweed Snack: So happy that I got the seasoned seaweed; it is lightly salted. According to the Snack Fever blog, these were supposed to be naked seaweed snacks. Eat these as is or with the rice bowl to make a meal.

Orion | Baked Cheese Potato Grain Chips: Usually when you think of a baked chip, you think of Pringles. These are SO much better. They are loaded with cheese flavor and absolutely delish. I couldn’t stop eating them and will have to look for them when I head to the Korean market.

** Deluxe Box BONUS **

GOT7 Concert Light Stick (courtesy of SubKulture Entertainment): To understand the light stick’s role in K-pop, check out this article from the Snack Fever blog – light stick.

This gets pretty bright! Use it while you rock out to GOT7’s hit “Fly”.

I felt like this month’s Snack Fever was a great “best of” box; a ton of my favorites from boxes past were in there. It was a great way to start off the new year. I can’t wait to see how they top themselves in 2017. Many wishes for happiness and prosperity to you in the new year!
