The Boxwalla Food box contains delicious artisan crafted foods and goodies from all across the US! Boxwalla is a bi-monthly subscription service that offers four themes – natural beauty, artisanal food, international film, or books! In Boxwalla you’ll be able to discover great artisans and artists from across the globe.  After your first box you can switch themes, but of course you can subscribe to more than one box as well.

The food box focuses on small-batch goodies, but only the best!

This month there was one too many item to fit into a small box. I love the box itself, which is gorgeous, and save all of mine. The box itself is a luxe cotton rag paper covered box handcrafted by artisans in Rajasthan, India, and no child labor is ever used. The outside of the reusable box indicates which variety of Boxwalla you received. I love how the box itself supports socially and environmentally conscious goals.

The information card is a letter from “The Drunken Boxwallas” detailing each of the products.

There’s a new theme for the year – Story of the World Through Food – the February Box was themed Cardamom & Caramel.

Everything in the February Boxwalla Food Box!

Call Me Caramel Gruyere Cheese Caramel ($20) When I opened the outer box this month I knew exactly what was in there – cheese! These caramels are quite pungent – they craft them by melting Gruyère into cream, folding in caramelizing sugar, and finishing with salt.

The back details your face when eating cheese caramel!

And quite a few were tucked into the box. Initially, I was a bit put off (they are a tad fragrant) but I was happy there were so many small caramels, because it allowed me to experiment with different flavor combos. I tried them with tropical trail mix (yes), with wine (surprisingly uninteresting), and a few other goodies. I liked them best with chocolate and/or nuts. I think having the textural contrast was important. An interesting discovery for sure!

Calcutta Kitchens Bengali Coconut & Cardamom Simmer Sauce ($10) This sauce pairs cardamom, turmeric, and coconut milk for a simmer sauce that’s great for meats, veggies, or tofu.

It’s a little on the thin side, so I think we’ll marinate some chicken chunks in it to get them extra tender and then simmer them down in this sauce. It will be mind blowing with some rice, raisins, and cashews, don’t you think? And maybe on top of cauliflower rice? Yes!

Unna Bakery Cardamom Crisps ($6.99) I was really excited to see these – I just discovered this brand in my Amazon Surprise Sweets Box!

These little cookies reminded me of biscotti in texture.

They’re packed with cardamom and certainly a sweetly delightful way to enjoy it. The flavor is rather exotic – it reminded me that Swedish treats are quite different than our own. Loved this.

Chocolat Moderne Blood Orange Bergamot Bar ($8)

Chocolat Moderne The Lover Bar ($8)

Oooh, I was so excited to get to sample these Jackson Pollack inspired bars!

They are totally stunning!

First up, white chocolate!

This bar includes Caramel with Passion Fruit & Cardamom – and I found it to be extraordinarily rich and decadent – no cocoa cutting the heavy cocoa butter and caramel. My husband loves white chocolate so this was his favorite.

Dark chocolate is mine!

This one is Caramel with Blood Orange and Bergamot and the flavors are more subtle (although still big and bold, just tempered by the dark chocolate). They were both interesting but I’d personally choose this bar every time.

This was a fun diversion into an oddly specific but intriguing (and delectable!) theme. The value of the box was about $54 and I’m still enjoying it – there’s a lot to savor here!
