Bokksu‘s April 2017 theme is GLUTTONOUS OSAKA!
Many people believe that Tokyo produces the most delicious and authentic food in Japan, but if you were to ask any Japanese foodie, they would undoubtedly assert that it’s Osaka! A city bursting with energy, culture, and character, Osaka is truly a one-of-a-kind destination from freshly grilled Okonomiyaki (Japanese savory pancake) and Takoyaki (pan-fried octopus balls) to strolling around beautiful Osaka Castle. For this month, to help you experience the fun, vibrant food culture of “Gluttonous Osaka”, we’ve curated a delicious assortment of snacks from Japan’s gourmet capital such as Okonomiyaki Senbei, Osaka Caramel Cake, Rich Baked Chocolate, and many other Osakan delights!
Osaka Chocolate Egg
Covered with a thin layer of white chocolate, this egg-shaped cake is deliciously fun to eat! The white bean filling inside the “egg” compliments nicely with the white choclate and the cake.
Rich Baked Chocolate
As the name suggests, this rich, chocolatey cake is slowly and carefully baked in the oven. Enjoy the melting bitter chocolate and the subtle hint of rum.
Osaka Caramel Cake
This bite-sized sponge cake is known for its deep caramel flavor and rich aftertaste. No wonder it won the prestigious Monde Gold Award in 2014. One bite and you will want to give it an award as well!
Okonomiyaki Senbei
Osaka’s famous dish, Okonomiyaki, is flour, egg, and cabbage mixed together and cooked on a griddle with a variety of ingredients. This Okonomiyaki Senbei is about as close as you can get to the real flavor of Osaka! It’s a rice cracker topped with freeze dried ingredients you would normally find on an okonomiyaki. There are two flavors for you to enjoy, cabbage and mayo!
Takoyaki Corn Puffs
Takoyaki, a classic Osaka food, are pan-fried balls of tako (octopus) topped with sauce and powdered seaweed. These fluffy and light corn puffs perfectly recreate the savory takoyaki flavor, and are deliciously addictive!
