Birchbox is a beauty sampling subscription service that sends 5 new items each month so you can try before you buy. Birchbox is $10 a month and you can choose a monthly sample during selection time, let Birchbox decide, or pick a pre-curated box. This is a review of a regular, non-curated box.

This month I purchased the curated box and also selected a sample – I really wanted to try the ARROW eyeliner!

DEAL: Use coupon code TWOFORONE to get a FREE bonus box with your first month!

This month’s theme is “Pretty Mighty” and the items sent this month were selected to be powerful, high performing products. The box design this month was in collaboration with Draper James, Reese Witherspoon’s southern lifestyle brand.

The information card gives brief details on each item as well as the price if you were to buy the full size.

You can visit Birchbox.com/MyBox to easily see the details of your box, which I recommend because sometimes they have videos on the item product pages which I find useful.

Coastal Scents Revealed Smoky Eyeshadow Sampler (43¢) I admit, I was bummed to see this product in my box! This is one of those items that just doesn’t excite me – the samples are super tiny (and I have the full sized palette from my January 2016 Boxycharm, so it’s not a new product either).

The colors are pretty though, and it’s a good option for travel. The pink shimmer is pretty and the fawn color doesn’t have a lot of apparent shimmer once its applied, although it looks that way in the pot. Zero fallout, so a good reminder that this brand’s shadows do work well – but a disappointingly low value product.

The shadows are swatched in this photo. The first swatch is of the eyeliner, below. ARROW ENHANCE Waterproof Eye Brightener ($8?) This is one-half of the Birchbox (own brand) ARROW ENHANCE Waterproof Eyeliner + Brightener.

The pearlescent pink is perfect for the inner corner of your eyes or just for a great pick me up. It applied so smoothly and worked really great – on the inside corners of my eyes. When I tried applying at the lash line, it kind of got all over my lashes.

Beauty Protector Protect & Volume ($2.94) I was thrilled to see this product in my box! I love the Beauty Protector scent, but with fine, limp hair (that doesn’t even need a comb or brush), Protect & Detangle is decidedly not my product!  This spray doubles as a heat protectant & volumizer and worked nicely to increase the volume of my hair without being sticky.

Evo Water Killer Dry Shampoo ($4.17) I love dry shampoo (it’s every mom’s get-out-the-house-quick savior!) and this one doubles as a styling powder, which is an added bonus. The scent is ok – a little soapy for me. However, with absolutely no residue (neither sticky nor whitish), it’s a winner.

Kiehl’s Super Multi-Corrective Cream ($8.68) My favorite item in the box! I’ve never tried this one before, and it was fantastic – a super rich and thick moisturizing cream (almost a balm) that also contains active ingredients to help lift and firm. Despite the presence of a whole host of natural actives there’s no discernible scent, which is a plus for me. I just returned from nearly two weeks in Florida and I can’t stop applying this cream (my skin already misses the humidity!).

In terms of value, this box was only okay, with about $24 in product. I was happy to try out the ARROW but the best products in the box were the dry shampoo and the Kiehl’s, which was a great little surprise!
