Birchbox is a beauty sampling subscription service that sends 5 new items each month so you can try before you buy. Birchbox is $10 a month and you can choose a monthly sample during selection time, let Birchbox decide, or pick a pre-curated box. This is a review of a regular, non-curated box with a sample choice this month but the rest was a surprise. How well did it match the profile that I created when I signed up? Read on to find out!

NOTE: Birchbox is currently testing out additional subscription options – check that info out here.

DEAL: Use coupon code TWOFORONE to get a FREE bonus box with your first month!

This month’s theme is Pretty Mighty and features “powerful, high-performing products for equally powerful women” since it’s Women’s History Month!

The information card gives brief details on each item as well as the price if you were to buy the full size. Look, they’re giving away a pampering package! You can enter the giveaway here.

You can visit Birchbox.com/MyBox to easily see the details of your box, which I recommend because sometimes they have videos on the item product pages which I find useful.

Everything in my March box! I received 5 items this month from a variety of beauty categories, which is just the way I like it!

TokyoMilk Dark Everything & Nothing (No size given, 89¢ for 1ml) I know some subscribers dislike perfume samples in their Birchbox but I love them and think it’s a great way to try brands that I may not be able to find elsewhere. I have tried this scent before and bought the rollerball set since I love this brand.

Everything & Nothing is a chypre floral and very feminine. It has white floral and orange citrus notes and a slight earthiness that keeps it interesting. Longevity on me was short.

I’m not into bronzing or contouring but my daughter loves it and I am going to pass along Cargo Swimmables Water Resistant Bronzer in Medium ($6.44) to her so she can chisel away. It has a bit of shimmer but not enough to make me sparkly.

Here it is swatched on my arm. I had a hard time opening the tin but got it done eventually.

This month Birchbox offered 3 Sample Choice items and I chose Benefit They’re Real! Mascara in Beyond Black ($8). I like this brand and I know this mascara is effective for my lashes.

Here’s the wand up close. It really does make my lashes look longer, plus it stays all day without smudging, which is important. No raccoon eyes for me, thank you!

When I saw this product in the Birchbox shop, I thought, “please send me this sample.” My wish was granted and Beauty Protector Protect & Volume Volume Spray ($2.93?) is now in my hands. I’ve received plenty of Beauty Protector hair oils and conditioning sprays in the past (which are too heavy for my fine hair) and even bought the shower gel and body butter for the amazing smell. Now I have the fine-hair spray and it did give me volume and didn’t weigh my hair down. Thanks, Birchbox!

I used Dr. Jart+ Dermaclear Micro Water ($2.56) both as an eye makeup remover and face makeup remover and was disappointed both times. I saturated a cotton pad and wiped my eyes with both sides and still had mascara and liner left, which I removed with my regular remover (I usually only need one cotton pad). I saturated another cotton pad and went over my face, tried another cotton pad and still had makeup left, and finally washed with my regular cleanser, and found makeup on the white washcloth. Too much hassle, too many cotton pads, and too expensive for the less than great results.

I love finding this beauty box in my mail each month! I love that it’s not overwhelming and I have found some amazing products through this sampling service. The volumizer not only smelled great but worked well too and I love my sample choice mascara. Birchbox sends out many box variations each month and the value of my box was about $20.82, which is double the price paid but kind of low for this box. Still, I am happy with my products and hope to try some of the new volumizing Beauty Protector products in the future!
