My Thrill Club is a subscription for fans of thriller and horror movies and books. Each month, subscribers receive two books and one DVD in the realm within the realm of thriller and/or horror. It’s a pretty awesome service!

Wanted DVD – $9.19. Wanted is based on the comic book series of the same name. The title and character names are the only things that are similar in this film. The comic book series is about super-villains that take over the world and the film is about assassins. This is an early film for James McAvoy who shows he can lead a movie. He definitely continues to show that in the movie Split and he has done remarkably well playing Professor X in the latest X-Men films. This is the Full Screen version of the film which I guess would be great if I owned a tube TV.

Wesley’s (James McAvoy) life is over – his pathetic old one, anyway… Fortunately, it is all because of a girl. Enter sizzling-hot Fox (Angelina Jolie), who crashes into his life and introduces him to the Fraternity, a secret society of assassins, led by the enigmatic Sloan (Morgan Freeman). Seems Wes’s long-lost father was killed while working for the Fraternity and Wes has been selected to target the rogue member who murdered him. But before he can complete his assignment, Wes must first uncover the dark secrets behind the Fraternity in order to determine his own destiny.

You Are One of Them – $16.00 cover price. Elliot Holt’s first novel sounds like a thriller for sure. Starting off during the Cold War in the 1980s and sets off on a mystery on whether one person is dead or alive.

Sarah Zuckerman and Jennifer Jones are best friends in an upscale part of Washington, D.C., in the politically charged 1980s.  Sarah is the shy, wary product of an unhappy home: her father abandoned the family to return to his native England; her agoraphobic mother is obsessed with fears of nuclear war.  Jenny is an all-American girl who has seemingly perfect parents.  With Cold War rhetoric reaching a fever pitch in 1982, the ten-year-old girls write letters to Soviet premier Yuri Andropov asking for peace.  But only Jenny’s letter receives a response, and Sarah is left behind when her friend accepts the Kremlin’s invitation to visit the USSR and becomes an international media sensation.  The girls’ icy relationship still hasn’t thawed when Jenny and her parents die tragically in a plane crash in 1985.

Ten years later, Sarah is about to graduate from college when she receives a mysterious letter from Moscow suggesting that Jenny’s death might have been a hoax.  She sets off to the former Soviet Union in search of the truth, but the more she delves into her personal Cold War history, the harder it is to separate facts from propaganda.

You Are One of Them is a taut, moving debut about the ways in which we define ourselves against others and the secrets we keep from those who are closest to us.  In her insightful forensic of a mourned friendship, Holt illuminates the long lasting sting of abandonment and the measures we take to bring back those we have lost.

Wolfhound Century – $15 cover price. Author Peter Higgins has penned a book about terrorism inside a political state that is corrupt. Sounds like a good read!

Investigator Vissarion Lom has been summoned to the capital in order to catch a terrorist —- and ordered to report directly to the head of the secret police.

A totalitarian state, worn down by an endless war, must be seen to crush home-grown insurgents with an iron fist. But Lom discovers Mirgorod to be more corrupted than he imagined: a murky world of secret police and revolutionaries, cabaret clubs and doomed artists.

Lom has been chosen because he is an outsider, not involved in the struggle for power within the party. And because of the sliver of angel stone implanted in his head.

My Thrill Club is a really great subscription box. Two novels and a DVD is a pretty cool way to enjoy some thrilling stories. I look forward to reading these books and finding out what is in store for next month.
