Play! by Sephora is a monthly subscription box that brings only the best and exclusive Sephora beauty and makeup samples. The subscription costs $10 per month, and you’ll get 5 deluxe beauty products, playlists, a fragrance bonus item, plus coupons you can use when you visit in-store.

Everything arrived packed in a bag, preventing items from rolling around in the box. This month’s bag saying – Sweat is Just Another Way to Glow.

Don’t forget about your PLAY! Pass. It gets you 50 extra Beauty Insider points with a purchase from the box (in-store only). Your subscription also entitles you to PLAY! Date meetups if your store participates.

Beauty, Set, Go is January’s theme. This month’s selections were curated to help you “detox and refuel” your beauty routine.

The fold out poster shows a list of all the items included in this box plus product/brand trivia and beauty tips. You can access all of the information and also watch the videos right on the Sephora site or use the app to scan the sheet for more info!

Everything in my box! My variation was box 435. Click here to see variant items in other boxes!

Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey ($12.24):  This is a sheer lip color with a glossy finish. While it may look intimidatingly dark in the tube, it goes on as a light berry-kissed tint. It is nearly the perfect shade, working with all complexions. Wear it alone (really moisturizing) or over your favorite lipstick for added shine.

This swatch is several passes on my arm. I tried to build it up so it didn’t look like a shiny slick.

Ouai Treatment Masque ($6.67):  I was super excited to see this! I’ve heard so many great things about Ouai haircare products and, as a curly girl, am always looking for something that works and keeps frizz at bay. My hair felt softer after using this, and I think it made my styling products more effective. The formula wasn’t at all heavy. Actually, it is thinner than I expected for a hair masque – the texture is similar to conditioner. The directions say you can use this on dry or wet hair (after shampooing if you have super coarse hair).

Tarte FRXXXTION Stick ($4.84):  This is a 3-in-1 facial cleansing stick. The first time I tried a stick cleanser was with Julep. The formula didn’t work for me, but my sister couldn’t stop raving. Now it’s my turn to gush. The stick formula is great because there’s no messy application. Just rub over your face. The gel has microexfoliants suspended in it to deep clean and polish skin. It wasn’t drying or scratchy. You can also let it sit like a mask to get maximum benefits.

Caudalie Resveratrol Lift Moisturizer ($25.38):  Reading the description of this product, all could think was that it was going to be a heavy-feeling anti-aging cream. It was surprisingly light and works nicely under makeup as a primer.

Pinrose Wild Child ($0.50):  Unleash your inner troublemaker with flirty white flowers. Best worn with a twinkle in your eye.  I love the description of this scent; it makes me want to be a little bit sassier. Unfortunately, I am not a fan of several notes in this fragrance. It is a blend of Tiare Flower, Bergamot, Freesia, Gardenia, Jasmine, Frangipani, Vanilla Bean, Amber. I did take the Pinrose scent quiz and found the scents that match my personality. It was shockingly accurate.

DERMABLEND Loose Setting Powder – Translucent ($4.82):  This setting powder locks in makeup for up to 16 hours of wearability. It even has waterproofing abilities. I don’t usually wear a lot of makeup or need it to last longer than a day of work, so I’ve yet to try it. I do have a girls’ night coming up though…

This month’s Play! had a nearly $55 value. I’m still wrapping my head around that amazing number. I loved the Tarte cleanser and was very happy with the Ouai masque. I’m a little leery of the Dermablend powder, only because of potential white casting (have you seen some of those celebrity photos???). This is such a fun subscription, and I now look forward to getting it each month.

Great review, Summer! The Tarte was my favorite, it’s really good in practice and almost surprisingly so as the concept is so cool.

Thanks for checking out the review, Heather! I had to go out and buy the full-sized version of the Frxxxtion stick. 🙂
