So Choix is a cosmetics sample subscription service; think Netflix for luxury brand cosmetics. Their goal is to combine the best parts of the in-store experience with online shopping. For $15 a month, you’ll get your choice of 5 beauty products to try. Build your queue with any products you want to try from So Choix’s lineup of luxury brands and products. Add, edit, and delete products from your queue as you wish. You’ll also earn 250 points ($5 credit) every month that can be redeemed towards any product at So Choix. Points can be rolled over and do not expire! You can also sample items from So Choix without a subscription for $5 each (turns into $5 credit towards the full–size product).

Choix is French for choice, and this service strives to give you that. So Choix was created on the following philosophy:

That’s why we let you choose the beauty samples you want to try! We let you try on enough sample of the product to determine whether or not that product lives up to a standard you are happy with, because we believe you need to be able to touch and try makeup and beauty products (on your face!) to love it…

We want to give you an easy, risk-free, and hassle free way of shopping for beauty…we want to help you make thoughtful decisions about your beauty look, your beauty routine, and help you discover who you are, without pressure! This is beauty on your terms.

Each product is secured in the box to keep it from rattling around during shipment.

Shiseido | ZEN Eau de Parfum: This scent is a blend of jasmine, rose, burnished woods, and soft mosses. I was surprised that I picked this because I am not a fan of rose. However, this light scent was not overpowered with rose and actually pleasant.

Living Proof | No Frizz Shampoo: I was afraid that this tiny sample wouldn’t be enough for a single shampoo, but it managed to provide 2 washes. The formula felt nourishing and left my hair clean. I still needed to condition afterwards and wished this had come last month when I got the leave-in conditioner.

Living Proof | No Frizz Nourishing Styling Cream: I chose this product because I heard it was good for heat styling. Unfortunately, the weather here has been warm and humid. I want to give this a fair shot and am waiting for some drier weather to test it out with my blow dryer and flat iron for a straight look.

Chanel | La Base Protective and Smoothing: This formula can be worn alone or as a base coat. It is designed to smooth nails, and the pink glow helps to correct uneven tone. You’ll see below that it did help smooth out my nails before I applied color.

Here’s a look at my bare nails for reference. You’ll notice that I do have visible ridges. (Um, and dry cuticles.  Sorry.)

Gucci | Nail Bold High-Gloss Lacquer – 200 Siam Red: Gucci polishes have a specialized triangular-bristle brush to enhance application. Too bad you can’t test that out with the sample. The formula was a bit thick for my liking, and the specialized brush may have truly made a difference. This is a black/charcoal based polish with burgundy metallic shimmer. I realized as soon as I put this on why I was drawn to it. It reminded me of Black Cat-cha Later from Nicole by OPI; a color I used to wear a few years ago but can no longer find.

A closer look at the color. This is the Gucci polish over the Chanel base. I did a quick application just to show you all how it looks. The finish is very smooth. GAH!!! Now I wish I could find the Nicole by OPI dupe. I just can’t pay more than $10 for a polish.

I was surprised by the ZEN perfume. Honestly, I don’t remember selecting it but am glad that I did. I wish I had done a better job organizing my queue so that all of the Living Proof products came in the same box. Oh well. Just to give you a reference of the savings from this subscription, my So Choix box was less than the cost of the base coat that I tested!
