Loot Crate‘s theme for January is ORIGINS.  Loot Crate is the original nerd subscription box for geeks & gamers. Every month you’ll get awesome, mostly exclusive geeky pop culture items curated around a theme for only $20 per month, shipped.

All the items in the January box! I was so pumped when I heard the theme and this box was really fantastic!

Every Loot Crate box comes with the mini mag!

The magazine also included some short features – they are always a fun read and you’ll be able to read it here.

The mini-mag contains all the item details, looter intel, as well as short features, quizzes, and puzzles.

Loot Crate TMNT January 2017 Pin: This might be my favorite LootPin of all time! The iconic sewer cover logo for TMNT!

The pin also unlocks free digital comics from Comixology!

TMNT Mini Tiki Muglet – Exclusive!

Subscribers received either a turtle or the chase variant Shredder! Apparently there are plans to sell the rest in the Loot Vault, but they’re not up yet. With 5 people in my family the thought has definitely crossed my mind, but I’d end up with Shredder every time!

The mug itself is awesome – we got Michelangelo, but we’d honestly be happy with any one of them.

I think this is fantastic, and I’m really hoping for more Tiki style fandom goodies sometime soon – I thought these were fun!

This month also came with a drink recipe. It’s not a very large mug, but it’s cute, and we’ll probably use it for milk & cookies!

Jumpan T-Shirt: The Original Since 1981! So this is very cool – before Mario was Mario, he was Jumpman inside Donkey Kong. I didn’t realize that, and as a result was a little puzzled by Donkey Kong in the art for the box theme. Now I know that he was jumping barrels before he started jumping over flytraps! The shirt is soft and SUCH a great design; I think basically everyone loved this one!

Action Comics #1 Reprint: Say hello to Superman!

This replica reprint was on original newsprint instead of modern stock, with the original ads. It’s totally awesome.

I didn’t realize Superman started out by taking care of a wife beater.

So it begins! The hero of many generations!

Action Comics wasn’t just Superman – and this issue included all the other strips too!

Oh man, I still miss these ads, which only died out maybe early 90s? They’re fantastic.

The comic was bagged and boarded and included this certificate of authenticity.

Marvel  Captain America 1940’s Shield Replica

A look at the Captain: Back of the box and the back of the certificate of authenticity.

A certificate of authenticity was included.

The 1940s shield was originally wielded in the Captain’s origin story in December 1940 – you might remember it from the recent movie as the museum piece! Love this classic design.

Totally great fun for a collector – it comes with a stand and even arm straps on the back.

And for my absolute FAVORITE de-boxing ever – the box turns into a comics/magazine holder.

I would be perfectly happy if they did this with every box!

I absolutely adored this box – it really was like all the feels with the origins of Superman, Mario, TMNT, and Captain America!  It was hard to go wrong with these franchises and the value is totally there – $22 (or less on a long term subscription) for a shirt, mini mug, fun collector replica, comic reprint, and pin!
