Doki Doki is a monthly Kawaii subscription box from Japan Crate. Every month you’ll receive super cute Japanese items – accessories, stationery, plushies, and other adorable Japanese goodies.

So kawaii!

DEAL: Use coupon code HELLO to save $5 on your first box!

Love this cover art by Shanen!

The theme this month is New Year’s Resolutions!

Each crate comes with a manga-style booklet to help you figure out what each item is (that means it’s bound on the right side instead of the left!).

The middle of the booklet contains all the information about the items. There’s a little comic and more fun stuff!

Another change this month is that the whole Japan Crate family is now moving to Japan from San Francisco!

Everything in the January Box!

Unfortunately, one item (AMUSE Cat purse) is still being held at the customs office,so they replaced it with 3 candies!

Here are the 3 candies!

Nyusankin Ikitekimasu Yogurt Candy: This was a surprisingly hard candy for being yogurt! It was sweet and did have many qualities beyond those 2 things.

Fortune Candy: These red and pink sugar balls (down in above photo) have a little legend and then when you pop them out, your fourth is revealed. Mine so far? Play = not good. Bummer.

Genji Pie Cookies: These made up for the other rather disappointing candies – these buttery delicate palmiers were crisped with sugar and quite a treat. Still bummed to not get the coin purse. I am really hoping for Japan Crate’s move to Japan to be a success!

Macaron Case: This simple case looks like a blue macaron and would be neat for storing some trinkets in – like a barrette!

Biscuit Pen

This cookie shaped keychain has a surprise inside!

It’s a pen! Cute! I love the Swiss dot ribbon too.

Relax Panda Hand Rest: This rather firm foam panda is perfect for resting your mousing hand on.

Julie: Shogatsu Edition Plush: At first I thought this was a new Doki Doki character but it’s Julie the cat wearing her Daruma hoodie for good luck!

I think she’s adorable and I love the red!

Nekomimi Headband: What a cute name for the headband! Neko is cat in Japanese! This fuzzy wonder keeps your ears warm and matches the fingerless gloves from last month! Plus it’s adorbs.

Mt. Fuji Hoppe Chan: Hope Chan is devastatingly adorable and this month she’s Mount Fuji with a New Year Hope perched on top. I love her bejeweled cheeks and can’t ever get enough of her!

This is a cute month but I would love to see some larger hero items, as it seemed to be a bit filler item heavy. Still, everything is cute and fun and what’s not collectible in this box is useful.  Wouldn’t Hoppe-Chan be lovely as a crossbody handbag though?

What did you think of this month’s Doki Doki Crate?

Did you get the mystery stocking that came with this month if you used the special code? Was wondering if anyone received it yet.

We have an ongoing subscription so we wouldn’t get the crate, but I know people have received it!
