The reverse side of the card always has the beginning of a useful article on some point of mastery related to the curation – this box helps decipher the different ingredients, manufacturing process, and aging aspects that distinguish the various styles of whiskey. (del)Hutson Designs Tray ($45): This pine tray is stained for a more seasoned look. It has a matte finish and doesn’t appear to be sealed – I recommend using coasters if you’re serving on the rocks to avoid water marks.
Luigi Bormioli Decanter & Tumbler Set ($39.95): This set includes a hefty decanter with stopper and two glasses. The decanter holds 23 3/4 ounces of liquor and has a silicon-ringed stopper to avoid evaporation.
The two 11 1/2 ounce glasses echo the bold design of the decanter, and they have a substantial heft, too. The tapering of the round rim down to the square base provides a nice area in which to hold the glass comfortably. I have both round and square whiskey glasses at home – the round are less comfortable to grip, and the square can be disastrous to drink from — these glasses solve both problems!
Amazingly, the Italian-made glassware includes a 25 year warranty! You can wash it in the dishwasher, and it is breakage resistant. The warranty will even replace the glasses if they become cloudy (my main point of resistance to dishwasher washing of drinking glasses).
If I’ve learned one thing from classic films, it’s that nothing says “powerplayer” quite like having a booze-filled decanter in your office or study. PARLOR lets you recreate that yesteryear sense of rugged sophistication in your own home (you may want to skip taking it to the office). I love the look of the set, as it straddles both classic and modern, combing stark lines and heft with curves and elegance. It’s a great way to honor your favorite liquor, or to make your store-brand hooch look nicer than the plastic handle and pour spout in came in suggests.
