Beauteque offers two ways to get your fill of (mostly) Korean beauty products each month: BB Bag contains 6-8 full-sized products such as makeup, skin care, body care, and more for $24 per month; Mask Maven brings you 9 different masks for $15. Both subscriptions are offered in 1, 3, 6, or 12-month terms that will automatically renew until canceled.

This was my second opportunity to receive Mask Maven… and I can tell you, I’m a convert. I am a fairly lazy person when it comes to skin care, but these masks make it so, so simple. My skin has definitely improved in the last month and I look forward to keeping it up. The following is a review of December’s Mask Maven. The theme for the end of the year is Clean Slate!

All of the masks came in a cute tulle bag, along with two information cards. I received nine different masks this month. So much fun!

DEAL: Save 10% on the BB bag or Mask Maven with coupon code CRATEJOY10.

Both of the information cards displayed this month’s theme – “Clean Slate”!

One of the information cards opened into a full page calendar.  The calendar is a super nice reminder to regularly use the masks. It also has some funny notes and helpful skin care tips. (I will say, though, I would probably be freaked out if I saw someone sheet masking on a plane, as suggested on Day 28! My family finds it a little disturbing when I wear one around the house… and they’re used to the masks by now!)

On the back of the other information card, there were details about each of the included masks, as well as instructions how to use sheet masks. I’m getting to be an old pro now, but the use instructions are super helpful as most of the masks’ packaging is not written in English. I also like knowing what ingredients are in the mask and what properties these ingredients have.

Let’s check out the fun masks I tried this month!

So one of the fun things this month is that a lot of the masks are based on food – here lime and avocado.

A’Pieu My Skin-Fit Sheet Mask – Lime ($1.99): This mask smelled delicious – I love lime. In addition to the lime extract, the mask also included other fruit extracts to clear away dead skin cells and brighten my complexion. This mask was slightly different than some of the other ones I’ve used in that it has a more snug fit.

Botanic Farm Natural Energy Avocado Mask ($2.00): I had always heard that avocados are fantastic for moisturizing and nourishing your skin, but if there’s an avocado in my house, I’m going to make guacamole… not smear it on my face. Thankfully, this mask solves my dilemma by providing a face mask with all of the avocado goodness.

Two more fun food-based masks – broccoli and tomato!

NOHJ Superfood Broccoli Mask (approximately $1.99 – I can’t find this mask on Beauteque’s site or anywhere else really for that matter, this is the price for similar masks from NOHJ): Broccoli is delicious to eat, but is it a great mask? Apparently, broccoli extract is a powerful antioxidant – here it is mixed with honey extract to clean, moisturize, and protect the skin from elemental damage. (And it doesn’t smell like broccoli!)

Tony Moly I’m Real Tomato Mask (approximately $1.99 – again, I can’t find this particular mask on Beauteque’s site… but for other Tony Moly It’s Real masks, the price is $1.99): So the theme of this mask is “radiance”… and I would have to say, after using this mask my face was definitely brighter. The tomato extract’s acidity controls oil; the mask also contains peach extract to hydrate and brighten the complexion. This one was one of my favorites.

One more food mask… and then an interesting surprise!

Shelim Ultra Hydrating Essence Mask – Blueberry ($1.90): This is apparently a new brand of sheet masks. There are a number of varieties – each Mask Maven included one style. I was happy to see blueberry (although it didn’t smell as wonderful as I would have hoped). Blueberry extract is supposed to improve skin elasticity.

NOHJ Golden Modelling Foil Mask ($3.90): Just when I thought I was starting to lose my mask newbie status, I got a surprise. Instead of being fabric or paper based, this mask is actually a foil sheet! Aside from the fact the mask is even more frightening to small children, this mask is actually pretty cool. Colloidal gold is known for anti-inflammatory properties, giving your skin a healthy, youthful glow. I loved the way my skin looked after using this mask.

Leaders Amino Clearing Mask ($2.20): This mask contains a bunch of different amino acids and lotus extract to purify the skin and leave a calm, dewy complexion. After the hustle and bustle of the holidays, I used this mask to take some of the stress off my face. I definitely think it helped.

A’Pieu Pore Deep Clear Black Charcoal Mask ($1.99): Charcoal is amazing for purifying and deep cleaning pores; this one also has witch hazel to absorb oils and leave the face fresh. I let my teenage daughter have this one – she thought her pores looked smaller and her face looked more clear.

FaceQ Luffa Oil Control Mask ($1.90): This is another mask I gave to my teen daughter. It contains luffa extract to remove dead skin cells and dirt, which helps tame face oil. My daughter said her face felt less oily, but not tight or dry. She also said she looked kind of “glowy.” I’ll take that as a good thing!

Like I said before, I may actually be turning into a bit of a Mask Maven. The sheet masks make skin care so easy – almost fool proof!

The value of masks in this box is approximately $19.86.  Mask Maven is definitely worth the subscription price – you are getting good value, plus the chance to try out masks that you may not know anything about.  There has been good variety, both within each month’s collection and looking at two month’s worth – I think I’ve tried some 15 different masks in that time.  Although I was skeptical at first, I’m a big sheet mask fan now…if you’re new to sheet masks (or even if you aren’t), I’d recommend giving Mask Maven a try.
