TokyoTreat is a Japanese treat box that is shipped directly from Japan. TokyoTreat has three levels of boxes, which seems to be the norm with snack boxes. Shipping is included with the boxes ($14.99 for mini, $24.99 for regular, $34.99 for premium).

The TokyoTreat magazine is read right to left like Japanese books and comics. It includes the product information as well as information on Japanese culture, the monthly giveaway, instructions for the DIY kit, and other features.

Most of the popular snack boxes have this sort of tiered system with three levels of size!

Here’s what’s included in the small box!

Bake Limited Edition Sweet Potato. This chocolate is actually sweet potato-flavored. It’s a bit weird at first taste but the chocolate combines with it to give it an almost creme brulee like flavor at the end.

Chocolate Pie Bar. This bar is a dry crumbly pie with chocolate filling. It’s not too sweet.

Baked Sweet Potato Yokan. Another sweet potato goodie! It has a jelly-like consistency. I didn’t like it that much, but the flavor was good – it’s more of a texture thing.

Calbee Seaweed and Salt Chips. These are one of my favorite Calbee chip flavors, so I’m happy to see this huge 10% bigger bag! They only lightly taste of seaweed, it’s more of that ocean salt flavor than being super strong.

img_5785

Whistle Ramune. I’ve seen these candies before but never actually had them – they are whistles and also ramune-flavored giant Lifesaver style candies. There’s a little toy in the box! I’m gifting these to my friend’s kid, as I’m sure he’ll get a kick out of them.

Mayotara. Every once in a while an item shows up that makes even me go “nope.” This is one of those snacks. It’s a dried taro fish snack with a packet of mayo to put on it. This is just something I can’t bring myself to try, so off to a friend it goes!

The regular box includes all of the above, plus:

Coris DIY Candy Kit. Uses soft pieces of colored taffy candy to mold shapes of fruit and vegetables! This kit looks really fun!

Tohato Apple Pie Caramel Corn. I love Tohato snacks, and they come up with the neatest flavors of their puffed corn snack. This limited edition flavor is VERY sweet but really does taste like apple pie!

Umaitama. The creators of my fave snack, Umaibo, have made a new version. This cream puff ball has chocolate inside, but overall I found it to be very bland.

Kinako Stick. I’ve tried these before – Kinako is roasted soybean flower and for this snack, it’s made into a chewy bar like toffee. It’s got a nutty, earthy flavor which isn’t too bad!

Mikan Gummy. These gummies are surprisingly sour! They’re covered in sour powder and once you get to the chewy center of the candy, it’s the flavourful mikan.

And finally, the premium box, which includes everything in the small and regular, plus:

Re-Ment Omusubi-kororin Mascot.  TokyoTreat often likes to include a non-food item, and I happen to love Re-Ment miniatures, so I was super excited to find this! These rice balls are adorable. It also comes with a small piece of gum.

Fujiya Peach Nectar Drink. Despite being in a can, this drink wasn’t carbonated. It was a sweet peach juice, and it was almost a bit too sweet to be refreshing.

img_5792

Morinaga Milk Caramels. These have been around since 1913, wow! They are smooth and creamy and the flavor is rich. I loved these.

Genji Pie. One of my favorite snacks – I once ate an entire box over a weekend. They’re buttery, flakey cookies glazed with sugar.

img_5793

Soft Milk Pocky. This Pocky is special because there are no artificial coloring or flavorings in it.

I love Tokyo Treat – they really have got the balance of a good snack box down. There’s always a good mix of savory and sweet, and the added drink and DIY are my favorite parts to try each month!

What did you think of this month’s Tokyo Treat ?
