SnackFever is a monthly subscription box that delivers all your favorite Korean snacks, as well as other hard-to-find Korean treats. Each month, subscribers will get 5 to 12 Korean snacks and treats, depending on their subscription. Snack Fever is available in three boxes, the mini box, the original box, and the deluxe box, and subscriptions are $12, $20, and $40, respectively, every month. Going forward, the Snack Fever boxes will be themed. For October, Snack Fever partnered with Lotte Foods to bring you some of Korea’s favorite snacks.

The fold out card featured members of the boy band EXO this month. Who’s your favorite? There was also notice that the SnackFever site is undergoing some changes. Stay tuned to see what the new site has in store. The word of the month is 먹 방 (meok-bahng), eating broadcast. Basically, a host broadcasts themselves eating large quantities of food to an online audience. For more on learning to read/write Korean, click here.

The October SnackFever Deluxe box reveal.

I’m only showing information on the Deluxe box, but the brochure does include the contents of the mini and original boxes. (Brandy covers the Original box review.)  Click here to see all of our SnackFever reviews.

Paldo Teumsae Ramyun: Have your cup of milk ready for this ramyun. It is one of the spiciest ones from Korea. Great for clearing your sinuses if you catch a cold this season.

Lotte Kkokkalcorn – Roasted Corn: These are like Bugles but sweeter. And if you’ve read Brandy’s reviews, they make great claws! LOL. That’s right, we at Hello Subscription support playing with your food.

Lotte Binch: A sweet, buttery biscuit covered in chocolate. The chocolate layer is nearly as thick as the biscuit! Thank goodness these are individually wrapped so I don’t eat the whole box at once. Those wrappers are like little guilt flags – the more there are, the guiltier I feel.

Lotte Sand – Pineapple: These sandwich cookies are filled with a pineapple cream. The cream has a slight tartness. As soon as I bit into one of these, I was taken back to my childhood. The taste was full of nostalgia. I don’t know why my mom didn’t buy these more often. They are so good!

Lotte Ya Chae Vegetable Crackers: Similar to a veggie Ritz cracker in taste, only milder.  These crackers are a little larger than oyster crackers and full of flavor.  I hate to admit that I ate the whole sleeve while binge watching TV.

Lotte Kancho Choco Biscuit: Round chocolate filled biscuit cookies.  These are the Korean version of Hello Panda cookies.

Lotte Anytime Milk & Mint Candy: If you haven’t had a milk candy, you are really missing out. They are sweet and creamy. Now, take that and add a mint hard candy to the exterior. I was expecting this to have strong mint flavor, but it’s not.

Lotte Chocopie – Cacao: The cacao Chocopie features chocolate cakes/cookies instead of vanilla. This is now my favorite Chocopie flavor. If you’re new to the Chocopie sensation, the original has been a long-favored snack in Korea. Think of it as a very delicious Moon Pie.

Lotte Ghana: The bar is named for the country where the cacao beans are harvested. This is a darker version of the original. I love dark chocolate, so this did not last and was not shared. MINE!

Lotte XZ Gum: I gave this to my brother and wished I had captured his reaction. It was one of the funniest things I’d seen in a while. A sample size of this was in last month’s box. I described it as follows:

“This was interesting. Think of the cooling sensation and open sinuses you get from a menthol cough drop. That’s this gum. I think this would be great if I had a head cold.”

20161120_165459

Lotte Milkis – Melon: This is a melon-flavored milk soda. It reminded me of one of my favorite treats – a frozen melon popsicle. It is sweet and creamy with a soft carbonation. This would be a good companion for the Teumsae ramyun.

Lotte Golden Barley Tea: In Korean, this is known as 보리 차 (boricha). When we were kids, my sister and I used to call this burnt water because of the nutty taste and gold color. It is unsweetened and made by boiling toasted barley in water. Drunk hot or cold, this is often preferred over water by Koreans.

Lotte Double Dip Pepero – Strawberry: Pepero are crispy breadsticks dipped in sweets such as chocolate and yogurt. The double dip refers to the dip the sticks take in both a yogurt and strawberry coating. In Korea, these treats have their own national holiday (Pepero Day – November 11th). The origin of the holiday isn’t really known, but regardless, these treats deserve to be celebrated. They are similar to the Japanese treat Pocky.

**Bonus Items**

  • Pepero Day poster and card featuring EXO-K members. Does your favorite member of the group match up to your favorite Pepero flavor?!?
  • Snack Fever and Snack Fever x Afreeca TV stickers. Maybe next month you’ll stream your Snack Fever box on Afreeca TV for a mokbang.

The October Snack Fever box has to be one of my favorite curations. Except for the XZ Gum, I loved (and ate) everything! I don’t know how next month can top this. Eat well my friends.
