The Fare Trade brings you 5 full-sized artisan and All-American ingredients, as well as signature recipes from award-winning chefs, for only $65.00 per month. You can now discover different flavors from all over the country while looking (and feeling) like a professional chef from the comfort of your own kitchen.

All the items are well-protected, nested within a big batch of wooden straw.

Every box includes 5 recipes incorporating the curated items as ingredients. The recipes are created by the month’s featured professional chef specifically to showcase the Fare Trade products.

If you are up for a culinary adventure, the five recipes are a great way to get the most out of your Fare Trade selections.

This month’s featured chef is Alex Seidel, chef and owner of two of Denver’s best restaurants, Fruition and Mercantile Dining + Provision.

The information card gives you more details about the items of the month, including several suggested uses.

A handy shopping list is included, so you can gather all the ingredients needed in a single trip to the store for a week of great meals!

Everything in my December box!

Fortuna Chocolate Mexican Dark Chocolate ($12 for 0.5 lb):  Chocolate from two Xoconusco, Mexico, growers is hand-roasted in the Boulder, Colorado, area, creating an exceptionally rich and deep chocolate.  Great for eating, baking, or making authentic hot chocolate.

We weighed this disc – it’s 3 ounces – $4.50 value.

White Mountain Farm Alamosa Quinoa ($4.99):  Colorado-based White Mountain Farm is the first full-scale domestic producer of quinoa. This ancient South American grain has a nutty flavor and retains superb texture when cooked. This certified organic grain also has a beautiful diversity of color from grain to grain.

Primo Holiday Pumpkin Spread ($3.48):  This sweet spread is full of real pumpkin and replete with holiday spices.

The texture is similar to apple butter, with a very viscous texture. It’s has a sweetness comparable to jam, but it also has an exceptionally rich flavor from the pumpkin,

Bee Squared Rose Honey ($8 for 3oz):  This Colorado honey is infused with locally-grown roses. The aromatic infusion makes it perfect as a dessert topping, tea sweetener, and baking ingredient.

Wine Forest Wild Foods Dried Chanterelles ($12):  Wild dried mushrooms, ready for soaking and incorporating in your favorite recipes. These chanterelles are great for risottos, soups, or sauces.

Fare Trade gathers really high quality items, all with an artisan-made, cottage feel. I am particularly fond of the pumpkin spread! The value of the items totals about $32.97, so the products alone don’t reach the $65 cost of the box — there is quite a bit of a premium for the curation and the great recipes included in every box. Each recipe includes a video tutorial you can access online, so quite a bit does go into making sure you can enjoy the recipes and ingredients.  Everything is really useful for any seasoned cook, but its not a bargain hunters delight. We think this box needs to improve the value substantially.
