Look at the new design of the boxes! I love it!

I received 1 soft cover book and 1 hard back book in the fantasy genre. The books were cushioned with paper to keep the covers from damage.

Time to curl up on the couch with a warm, fuzzy blanket and a hot cup of Lady Grey tea. I have received some very good books since I started getting this box and this month is no exception.

Sorry, but there was no information card this month.

This month seems to be about the past and what ifs.

Clash of Eagles by Alan Smale ($7.99 paperback Amazon) is about what the world would be like if the Roman Empire did not fall and the North American continent has just been discovered. A roman Legion crosses the great ocean, encounters an endless wilderness, and faces a clash of worlds, cultures, and warriors. This is the first book in a series from the author. I just started this book but so far so good. May just end up reading the whole series.

Perfect for fans of action-adventure and historical fiction—including novels by such authors as Bernard Cornwell, Steve Berry, Naomi Novik, and Harry Turtledove—this stunning work of alternate history imagines a world in which the Roman Empire has not fallen and the North American continent has just been discovered. In the year 1218 AD, transported by Norse longboats, a Roman legion crosses the great ocean, enters an endless wilderness, and faces a cataclysmic clash of worlds, cultures, and warriors.

On to the next book.

My next book of what if is The Cusanus Game by Wolfgang Jeschke ($19.97 Amazon). It is about a scientist by the name of Domenica Ligrina and her attempt to save her planet after a nuclear disaster that destroys all of Northern Europe in the future year of 2052. She finds that the answer to saving the planet may lie in the Middle Ages. I haven’t started on this yet but it is definitely up next. I want to see how the Middle Ages’ culture will save the planet.

Biologist Domenica Ligrina fears her planet is dying. She might be right.

An atomic disaster near the French-German border has contaminated Northern Europe with radioactivity. Economic and political calamities are destroying the whole planet. Human DNA is mutating, plant species are going extinct, and scientists are feverishly working on possible solutions. It becomes increasingly apparent that the key to future salvation lies in the past. In 2052 a secret research facility in the Vatican is recruiting scientists for a mission to restore the flora of the irradiated territories. The institute claims to have time travel. When Domenica’s sometime-lover tells her that he knows her future but that she must decide her own fate, she enlists despite his ambiguous warning.

The Middle Ages hold Domenica spellbound. She immerses herself in the mysteries, puzzles, and peculiarities of a culture foreign to her, though she risks changing the past with effects far more disastrous than radiation poisoning. Perhaps there is more than one Domenica, and more than one catastrophe

These 2 books are right up my alley. I have got my blankets, my teas, and bookmarks ready. Do you ever wonder “What if”?

Total retail for this box is about $45, cost of the subscription $14.99 a month. Total savings: about $30!!! I love savings! Even if you use used book pricing this is still coming ahead by a few bucks or break even. Do you like stories about different worlds? If you do, I know you will enjoy these books.
