BeautyFIX is a monthly subscription box from Dermstore that sends you the latest skin care, hair care, and makeup products for $24.95 a month (or $34.95 for a one-time purchase). They feature full and travel-sized products and promise the box will contain at least $100 worth of items. Everyone receives the same products, although makeup colors or scents may differ, but at least you will know what you’re getting if you decide to purchase the box after you see the contents.

TIP: you can subscribe to BeautyFIX and receive this exact box – it’s usually available all the way through the end of the month!

The product information card gave the item name, what it is used for, and a coupon code for a shop purchase. This month’s theme was “Unbox Wonder.”

I tried Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse OR Multi-Purpose Dry Oil ($7.43) on one arm to see how it would compare to my plain old non-oiled arm. It gave a slight shimmer and had a beachy scent. Macadamia and sweet almond oils provide the softening factor along with four other oils and this dry oil can be applied not only to the body but to the face and hair, too.

I really like the sparkly shade of Dermelect ME Nail Polish in Sleigh Me ($14) but subscribers may receive different shades. This one is described as “arctic shimmer” and is peptide enriched and free of DBP, toluene, and formaldehyde.

I applied this morning and have showered, washed dishes, and washed my hands several times and it’s still going strong. I think this might be a little too young for me but my daughters now have a seasonal shade to wear and my preschool students will be sure to notice.

REN Evercalm Global Protection Day Cream ($13.50) is a lightweight moisturizer for sensitive skin that has shea butter and sesame oil to help relieve redness and chamomile and green tea to soothe the face. My skin tends to be reactive so I am hoping to see some relief after using this for several days.

Dermologica Charcoal Rescue Masque ($13.49) has charcoal to absorb impurities, volcanic ash to exfoliate, and sulfur to boost cell turnover. This one was just too drying for my skin and it smelled like a sewer so I will pass it along to my daughters if they can stand the smell.

I am a fine-haired gal and Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging Miracle Multiplying Volume Mist ($8.14) gets a big thumbs up! This actually gave my hair long-lasting volume without giving me helmet hair. Free of parabens and phthalates but this does have caviar extract and marine botanicals.

I skipped the conditioner and ran a bit of Color WOW Kale Cocktail Bionic Tonic ($24) through my tresses instead. My hair combed easily through but unfortunately it left my fine hair feeling limp and greasy. I will pass along this creamy tonic that promises to make hair stronger and more resilient with just one use and has vitamins and amino acids.

I love to try new-to-me makeup brands and The Sensual Lip Satin by Kevyn Aucoin in Velvet ($48) is a luxurious treat. This weightless wonder leaves a satin finish and is similar to a stain.

You can outline your lips with the applicator and then fill in the middle with the flat side of the brush.

I was a little worried about applying because this color, which is described as Bright Apple Red, is too bright for my complexion but I found that I could apply sparingly and rub in with first a lip brush and then my finger and it left a lovely stain behind. It wasn’t too terribly long-lasting but I liked the look. Would I pay $48 for another one? Um, no!

I used the Glytone Mild Cream Cleanser ($4.80) with the facial brush that I received from BeautyFIX last month and found that my skin felt a little irritated afterwards. I tried again this morning without the brush and didn’t have any reaction at all. The glycolic acid helps reduce hyperpigmentation and fine lines while the moisturizing ingredients cleanse without irritation. I found that my skin felt clean and all of my makeup was removed.

I’m not really a fan of primers but after trying DHC Velvet Skin Coat ($7.50) I’m starting to change my mind. The gel feels like other dimethicone based primers, which is to say so silky smooth that I’m not sure I applied it correctly if at all. Then I spackled on my makeup as usual and I really did feel like my face looked maybe not flawless, but better than usual. I’m still not planning on using these products everyday but for a special occasion I might just break it out.

I’m currently reading a novel about Queen Victoria and now I can feel like a queen when I use the Danielle Creations 24K Gold Plated Nail Clippers ($9.99)!

Sure, it’s a nail clipper, but the gold-plating elevates this everyday item to a luxury piece that will make me smile every time I use it!

This month’s box contained 10 items (4 of them full-sized!) and was worth around $150.85! I will pass the Kale Cocktail Bionic Tonic and charcoal masque along to my daughter but every other item will be put to full use! I love the Caviar Volume Mist and the other items were perfect for my needs. What a festive box for December!
