Treatsie At Home endeavors to bring the deliciousness of the artisan sweet home to your kitchen. Your kit includes everything you need (except eggs and dairy) to make a dazzling dessert. This month’s dessert was Cookie Tacos.  Who doesn’t love tacos!? Don’t tell me if you don’t. I  don’t want to think less of you.

Treatsie At Home is very reasonably priced at $19.95 per month. If you want to purchase a one-time box it is only $24.95. Treatsie also has a rewards program. For every $1 you spend you get one point. For every 100 points, you get a $10 store credit. You get points for the purchase of your subscription, but the reward is only good for one-time store orders. Also, you can get 100 points for every subscriber that you refer to Treatsie!

This tempting array of ingredients was in the box. All the bags were nicely packaged and sealed well.

This is the front of the recipe card for delicious Cookie Tacos. The kit included: *Cookie Mix (4oz flour, 4oz sugar, vanilla bean, salt), *Chocolate Buttercream (12oz powdered sugar, 3oz cocoa, salt), *”Cheese” sprinkles, *”Tomato” candies, *Coconut “lettuce”, *2 Skewers for drying rack, *Piping Bag

You need to supply three eggs (whites only) and 8oz of butter (that’s two sticks). The yield says 8-10 cookie tacos, but I had enough to make a dozen with lots of frosting leftover.

I am glad they put the link for the baking video on the front of the card this month as well as on the back. (See it at the bottom left corner?)

Woohoo! It’s always a good time for tacos! Let’s bake!

Here’s the inside of that same recipe card. It features step-by-step instructions and pretty pictures of the recipe steps.

There was also an ingredient list for each item in the box.

I spread everything out in my kitchen and got to work! I love not having to measure anything. I am so a “throw it in there and hope it works” kind of cook…

Here’s my contribution to the baking party. We have chickens! Those are our eggs.

treatsie-4

Aren’t they pretty? See the lighter green one?  We hatched the hen that laid that one out last year, her dad was an Easter Egger (lays green eggs) and her mom was a hen that laid white eggs. But, I digress.

Step 1 on the card is to separate the egg yolks from the egg whites. Eggs whip better at room temperature. And, if you have unwashed (they have a natural protective coating) fresh eggs there is no need to refrigerate them for several weeks (in mild weather or air conditioning). If you have store bought eggs just leave them out on the counter for a couple hours before you get started.

Step 2  Add the cookie mix to the egg whites to create a thin batter.

treatsie-8

Step 3  Spread the batter out in a thin, but not see-through, 4-inch circle.

Step 4 said to only bake three at a time because they dry quickly and you won’t have time to shape more than that before they set into shape. I’m a rebel. I did four at a time.

Step 5 Tape (I used rubber bands) the two skewers (they were in the box) to the bottoms of two upside down glasses.  You will drape your cookies over the skewers to form the taco shapes.

Step 6 Bake your cookies. When they are done lay them over the sticks to dry and form the taco shape. I think I got a little egg yolk in my whites at the beginning and it made my cookies a little chewy, they never got really hard. But, they were still yummy and held the taco shape eventually.

Step 7 Cream the butter and add the icing mix to make the taco filling. Then, put it in the piping bag in order to add it to your taco cookies. (Check out my tip on how to get icing into piping bags in my review of Treatsie’s debut At Home subscription box.)

Step 8 Assemble your delicious cookie tacos by piping the frosting (taco filling) into the cookie shells and adding the garnishments.

Do you see what they have done here? It’s a taco, but it’s a cookie. And it’s so stinking cute that I can hardly stand it!  I would have never in a million years thought or attempted to make these without the help of the Treatsie At Home subscription box.

Do you too live in fear of complicated baking? Fear no more! Treatsie will make it easy and fun to make the most delicious dessert treats.
