The theme for November 2016 was Cowboy! How fun!

img_2652

Those who are inclined can use this handle to turn their Pretend Place Box into a suitcase to house their new pretend play props. Cool! My son promptly put his new magnet on the refrigerator.

We received everything my son would need to play cowboy.

My son loved his letters from Lasso Lucy! They really captured the spirit of wonder that this box is all about. My son couldn’t wait to dress up and help Lasso Lucy herd cattle across Montana and Wyoming.

So cute!

“How I Spent My Summer Vacation” by Mark Teague ($5.99) further set the stage for becoming a cowboy. In it, a young boy imagines that he was captured by cowboys en route to his aunt’s house for the summer. Luckily, the cowboys released him in time to show up to school the following fall!

My son really liked this cowboy costume. Every component except for the hat fit him very well. My son has an exceptionally large head, though, so that was expected. He simply balanced the hat on top of his head. The chaps were adjustable, which was great, and the vest offers a lot of room as it doesn’t clasp in the front.

My son was excited to wrestle some broncos!

img_2639

First, he’d need to mount his trusty steed.

img_3108

He enjoyed galloping around the house.

Even the most active cowboys need an outlet to relax late at night. Luckily, My Pretend Place box included a Melissa & Doug Harmonica ($5.99)!

img_3121

My son enjoyed serenading us to his music as he walked around the house.

img_2643

Next, my son decided to try his hand at the lasso. We chatted about different knots and how to tie them. Then my son ventured out to wrangle some animals!

img_3101

So fun!

img_2645

After wrangling items on the ground in our house, my son got to work creating his own cow. He looked forward to trying to lasso it!

img_3323

Every cow needs spots and a face, so my son got to work cutting his out of the provided felt.

img_3327

After gluing his face, spots and eyes on an empty milk bottle, my son was delighted to have something of his own to lasso in our house.

img_2655

This is an example of a shipment you might receive during the second or third month of the cycle. It contains a letter from Lasso Lucy (which my son loved!), another craft and a set of stickers my son could use to make a wild west scene.

img_3086

My son was eager to play with the stickers!

img_3100

He thought this activity was a lot of fun. When he finished, he gave the remaining stickers to his sister, who played with them happily.

img_2656

In this activity, your little cowboy becomes a member of the wild west’s most wanted!

My son and I will save this to extend our play next month.

img_2662

This last letter from Lasso Lucy was a real treat! My son was thrilled to learn about what great work he did working on the ranch.

img_2663

To celebrate, Lasso Lucy suggested sharing in some cookies and throwing a cowpoke initiation ceremony.

img_2664

The recipe for tumbleweed cookies was included.

img_2665

A certificate for each child was included as well.

My son loved his first box from My Pretend Place! He had so much fun immersing himself in Lasso Lucy’s imaginative world! This subscription offers so much more than just dress up props, although those are excellent too. The curators create an inventive setting for children to explore with their props.
