Play! by Sephora is a monthly subscription box that brings only the best and exclusive Sephora beauty and makeup samples. The subscription costs $10 per month, and you’ll get 5 deluxe beauty products, playlists, a fragrance bonus item, plus coupons you can use when you visit in-store.

sephora-play-november-2016-unboxing That little card is a PLAY! Pass that will get you 50 extra Beauty Insider points with a purchase from the box – in-store only.

Your subscription also entitles you to PLAY! Date meetups if your store participates. I don’t even have a Sephora (not even a JCP one) but this box totally excites me even without those experiences – I love the high end brands every month for just $10.

The theme is “Best in Glow” featuring items to help bypass winter dullness – and every box included a GLAMGLOW product! YAY! You can see all the box variations here.

This fold out poster shows a list of all the items included in this box plus beauty trivia and tips. You can access all of the information and also watch the videos right on the Sephora site or use the app to scan the sheet for more info!

The items are placed inside a bag inside the box to keep everything secure.  My box was variation 322.

Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Rose Gold ($17.68) This shadow stick is about 60% of the full size, which is fantastic! It glides right on, has a short setting time, and then doesn’t budge! The color is absolutely gorgeous and party ready. I’m a little squeamish about using it as a cheek highlighter as suggested on the card! It seems like less transfer-proof products would be better suited for that job.

sephora-play-november-2016-img_9157 Sephora Collection Ultra Shine Lip Gel in Pin Up Pink ($10.90) According to the package size (0.1 oz) this is nearly the full size of the original, just in less luxe packaging (that ugliness on the cap is due to the wrapper!).

Besides that everything else is the same and this lipgloss is fantastic – if you’ve been turning your nose down at Sephora brand products just because, this gloss will totally change your mind! It’s super shiny and hydrating and the bubblegum color is pink heaven! It has light reflecting particles and does definitely remind you of a gel manicure! Swatch below! I also liked the sweet scent of this gloss.

Cover FX Illuminating Primer ($6.33) This silicone free primer is very lightly tinted (or appears that way) with light reflecting particles. It definitely had a blurring effect on my skin but felt like there was nothing there (in a good way). I really liked this (and I generally like this brand), plus it has skin improving ingredients!

Gatuline Radiance Illuminate and Refine is a natural, preservative-free ingredient that improves the look of dull looking skin and supports microcirculation, Hylasome EG10, a Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer, helps to moisturize and leave skin hydrated, and Panthenol, Provitamn B5, gives skin a smoother, supple appearance. Improve skin tone and give skin a glowing appearance with this multitasking formula.

It’s paraben-free too! Actually all the items in the box were.

Gloss, shadow, primer!

CAUDALIE Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet ($9.75) The first thing I have to say about this sample is that it’s mostly empty – since it’s supposed to be 1/4 size I would never buy this product – I thought it was really chintzy! The gel cream, while moisturizing, wouldn’t go that far. I like Caudalie and their grape-sourced antioxidants, but I would give this one a total pass unless it’s the only thing that works for your skin (doubtful!).

GLAMGLOW GRAVITYMUD Firming Treatment ($24.64) This hyper-pricey treatment is really fun! You apply the warming, firming, and tightening silvery cream and voila, instantly tight skin!

Well I’m not sure if it did anything, but it totally turned me into a silvery wonder! The information sheet told me to apply this with a foundation or mask brush but.. I just put it on with my fingers. I think there’s enough product for about 3 masks here, which is a really great sample! I think this is a great special occasion product to help you look and feel a little toned up before a big event!

Maison Margiela Replica Perfume – By the Fireplace ($1.5) This unisex perfume is described as “combin[ing] smoky and woody accords with the subtle sweetness of chestnut to evoke a familiar but forgotten moment—the warmth of a cozy fireplace in midwinter.” It smells marginally better than it sounds but I can’t think of a scent I’d want less than burnt, save anything rotten or skunky. I sprayed it on my bag to test it so sadly, tossed the bag as a result. Yick! (This made me sad!) The card says to layer with the new fragrance filters blur or glow, but there’s no saving burnt for me. It would have been awesome if they sent those out instead!

Including the perfume sample the total value of my box was about $70, which is ridiculous and astonishing and I really truly can’t believe it. I liked or loved all the products except for the scent (I liked the Caudalie I just didn’t think the price to value ratio was at all reasonable). This is for sure one of the best boxes they’ve had even if I was iffy on a couple of the products, and it’s just such a great value with premium brands that I can’t believe everyone doesn’t want in on this one!

What did you think of your box this month??
