I love that CubbyCase encloses coupons for parents who wish to purchase additional toys as gifts or to fill out a set.
CubbyCase is devoted to bringing back traditional family play time. That’s something we can never get too much of in our house!
Each CubbyCase includes a list of the enclosed toys, books, activities and tools and a description of each.
In addition, each month features a different CubbyTip, a parent’s guide for how to foster a desirable trait in children. This month’s tip included helpful information on how to nurture a growth mindset in children.
My son loved playing with the enclosed Classic Road Series Playtape ($4.50 based on the cost of 30 ft)! This removable tape is a great alternative to train tracks. Kids have more freedom in construction with the tape, and they get some additional fine motor activity in as they cut or tear the tape into their desired lengths.
My son enjoyed playing with the tape very much.
He told me repeatedly, though, that he wanted some curved tape so that he could build REALLY cool roads. I think I may have to get him some for Christmas!
I very much enjoyed discussing the enclosed descriptions of professions with my son as we completed each activity. My son was very interested in learning about urban planners.
He was also interested in learning what roads are made out of. Before working our way through these prompts, he had never thought about why we need street and safety signs. I like how Cubby Case has challenged him to think about roads in new ways.
My son and I both thought that the Chibitronics Activity ($10) was awesome.
With this activity, my son got to pretend he was an electrical engineer.
We talked about circuits and conductors. My son experimented by turning the LEDs around. He also tore his copper wire apart and patched it up again.
He had so much fun with this, and I loved seeing the look on his face when he got his LEDs to light up!
Once he had completed this activity, we talked about different power sources and where we use circuitry in our every day lives.
My son very much enjoys art projects, but he had never used a Spirograph ($2?) before. He was excited to give it a try!
I thought this was an excellent challenge for him.
He had a lot of fun creating different patterns.
As he was working with his spirograph, his sister kept coming over and bumping him. Clearly, she thought what he was doing was cool too!
The final hands-on activity challenged my son to construct a helicopter with this kit from K’nex ($6.99)
He had a lot of fun trying to decipher the instructions and snapping the pieces in place. The latter required a lot of hand strength. I couldn’t have been more thrilled with this activity for him.
It challenged him to think spatially, helped develop his hand and finger strength, and resulted in an awesome helicopter complete with rotating propeller. So cool!
It looks like when you combine this kit with the plane and truck kits, kids will have everything they need to create a space shuttle. That sounds like an excellent Christmas present/project!
My son enjoyed chatting about helicopters after he completed his build.
“Pieces of Another World” by Mara Rockliff ($15.95) is a delightful story of love, spontaneity and the magic of the cosmos.
It certainly brought back fond memories from my childhood–that time my dad pulled me out of high school to see elephants hoist up a circus tent (which never actually happened).
My son loved the plot line of this story and was equally interested in everything the protagonist saw once she and her father settled down to look at the night sky.
We talked about stargazing and light pollution and vowed sometime soon to stay up late to go stargazing together.
My son and I thoroughly enjoyed our first box from Cubby Case! My son loved tinkering with the enclosed toys, and I appreciated the conversations and family time that ensued. I can’t wait to see what they come up with next month! If it’s anything like this installment, it’s sure to be a winner.
