The Books, The Lemon of Pink is the Record of the Month!

We’re very excited to be announcing the November Record of the Month. We want to kick off our announcement with an excerpt from the The Lemon of Pink digital liner notes:

“True acts of solitude should go unnoticed, which is why I’m hesitant to talk about The Lemon of Pink. Better to just let it be. Better to just let this stainless artifact with its deep warrens of sound exist alone and far away from this life. It’s too alive with error messages and backwardly incompatible. Singer and producer Nick Zammuto, cellist Paul de Jong, and vocalist Anne Doerner built a paradoxical space, an alien world that is pressed up against the skin of our own. All these recondite voices stitched together with skeins of guitar and banjo and cello are a drug, a thick scrim laid over this world that can allow for one real, organic moment of solitude.” – Jeremy Larson

There is so much to say about this album. We’re excited for you to experience it on your own, for the first, tenth or hundredth time. When Mark Richardson, Executive Editor for Pitchfork, reviewed The Lemon of Pink when the album was released, he gave it a Best New Music score of 8.4. He went on to say that, “The Lemon of Pink may sound a bit like this duo’s debut, but it also sounds like nobody else. The Books remain more or less a genre of one.”

We can’t agree more. Enjoy VMP Nation.

Every month you get a tasty cocktail recipe, and this month we partnered with Auchentoshan® Single Malt Whiskey to create the cocktail pairing.

The Lemon of Pink and Margo Flips is going to be the perfect way to welcome November. This cocktail plays off of the flip, a colonial era cocktail that incorporates spirit, beer, sugar and egg that is heated by a red hot poker. Considering blow torches and booze might not be the best combination, we chose to shake this version.
