Stitch Fix Men is here! Stitch Fix Men is a personal styling service customized to your fit, lifestyle & spending preferences. Just like Stitch Fix for women, your stylist will send you 5 pieces based on your profile for you to try on at home.  You only keep what you love, and you never have to set foot in a mall!

There are no coupons for Stitch Fix, but if you love everything in your fix, you save 25% when you keep the whole fix (read below for details)!

I loved the look of the packaging — it’s clean and masculine.  They did a good job of restyling the subscription to make it appealing to men.

Every box includes a set of styling cards with suggestions on how to wear the particular items. There’s usually a dressed up (right) and dressed down (left) version for each piece of clothing. The cards are not currently accessible in your Stitch Fix profile, but you can request a PDF via email.

The styling cards are a great resource.  They help you visualize how the pieces will fit into your existing wardrobe.  Even if you don’t keep the items in the box, they are a good source of inspiration for putting together outfits from what you do have.

Everything arrives neatly stacked in brown paper – I think it’s even a bit sharper looking than the tissue used in the women’s subscription.

Here’s how Stitch Fix Men works: First, you fill out your style profile. This includes style, budget, and what you’re looking for – you can get as detailed as you want with the notes to your stylist.  Your stylist is very responsive to your requests and will work hard to find pieces that fit your declared style, so the more info you provide, the better your selections will be.

The box comes with a smart envelope with all the details on the clothes, plus a prepaid return envelope.

You get instructions, a style guide, and the price sheet.

The instructions couldn’t be simpler:  try on the stuff, let Stitch Fix know what you thought, and return the pieces you don’t want in the prepaid mailer (free shipping!).

If you keep everything you get a 25% discount.  This is why it is so important to be detailed and accurate in your profile, as it increases the chances that your stylist will hit a homerun. You will check-out and get charged through your Stitch Fix Men account. You’ll be charged a $20 styling fee and shipped five items to try on at home. If you keep anything your styling fee will be applied to your order, but if you don’t, you will pay the $20 fee.  If I kept everything in the box, this fix would be $311.50 – about $78 per item (after the styling fee I already paid for).

Everything in my fix for October.  It included two pairs of pants, two shirts, and a light jacket.

Original Penguin Dinuba Dobby Shirt ($89): This is a pretty button-down with a narrow collar and pleated cuffs.

The color is great – it is a deep indigo with a variable sized crosshatched stitch pattern.

The split cuff allows you to roll up the sleeves. I really like the look of the shirt, but Penguin shirts don’t work well for me. Even when they have plenty of room for my trunk, the chest, arms and shoulders are tight – they are designed for men with a narrow build at the chest.

Scotch & Soda Amity Cuff Detail Shirt ($98): This is a very traditional looking dress shirt when viewed from a distance, but it has some unique touches.

The color is a very neutral blue and white stripe. The tag and buttons are ivory, which makes the shirt look brighter by contrast. The inside of the yoke has a cool little heart pattern.

The cuff has a bright braided tie link in neon orange and purple. The sleeve is also gathered by a seam that runs perpendicular to the usual pleat. This shirt ran very slim at the waist. The styling on the piece is a little trendy for me –  it’s a bit more for guys that wear bracelets.

Threads 4 Thought Tacoma Knapp Hoodie ($59): I loved this hoodie, a definite keeper! It has a chambray appearance with black specks – I think it will hold its looks for a long time, as the specks will hide pilling.

The interior is very soft, though the material is single ply and very thin for the style.  It is a great layering or house jacket — we joked that it will be perfect for throwing on over my inappropriate tee shirts when I pick the kids up at school!  The zipper works smoothly and bisects the hand-warmer pocket in front.

Mavi Matt Relaxed Leg Jean ($98): Deep blue with an aggressive, targeted wash, these look great and fit well along the legs.

The seat is simple, with an elegant pocket detail.  The waist rides rather low in the back, which I’m not fond of.

Tailor Vintage Litchfield Brushed Sateen Chino Pant ($98): These chinos break the mold, with a relaxed, slightly rumpled look.  I like the break from the starched khaki look, and they still work well with a dressy shirt.

The lining of the pockets has an awesome fox hunt pattern.  It reminds me of an awesome recliner I had (that is, until I got married).

[Note from the editor – that chair had to die!]

The fabric is very smooth and has a nice sheen. I liked the fit on these too.

Stitch Fix Men looks good so far. The selections were high-quality and fashionable, too. I would like to see more options for stay at home dads, though, as the shirts were targeted toward office wear, but this is an admittedly low percentage of potential customers for this subscription.  I like having some nice clothes to wear on errands, but I don’t necessary want to put on a dress shirt for grocery shopping.  The “buy all” discount is nice, but even getting a single piece feels discounted because the sunk cost of the styling fee is credited toward it.  In this case, the hoodie I loved only cost $39 bucks beyond my styling investment!  The styling fee is a good bargain – I expect there will be at least one piece I like in each order, so I will recoup it as a credit on my buy, plus I really do not miss department store shopping!
