Comic Bento is a monthly comic book subscription service that delivers graphic novels and comics each month. This is a great value because every month, you’ll receive at least $50 in books.

Special care is given to each box. To keep the books from jostling about, Comic Bento uses air cushioning and has all books packed together in plastic with cardboard to keep everything straight.

Four books from different publishers.  Comic Bento did well including some hot items to their offering this month.

Comic Bento includes a 2-sided card that gives you some insight into the books they sent. They also give some backstory as to why they chose the books within the subscription box. This month’s theme is As Seen on TV!

Comic Bento is great at providing variety. This is pretty cool as you get four different titles from all different publishers.

The Blacklist: The Gambler(NO. 148) Titan Comics – $14.99. Titan Comics publishes this comic based on the hit TV show “The Black List.” Red Reddington continues his adventures within the pages of this comic book collection.

The Gambler. Collecting together the first five issue story arc of the comic and introducing a brand new villain, created exclusively for the comic by the writers of the TV show.

Someone is targeting the FBI with a series of planned attacks including framing them for the murder of a leading political activist. Red at first suspects that a dangerous, media-manipulating Blacklister know as the Lobbyist is responsible, but comes to realise that there is someone far more sinister and deadly behind the scenes manipulating events for his own nefarious purposes…

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D: The Coulson Protocols – Marvel Comics –  $17.99. As much as I would like to be a completionist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I just can’t keep watching the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. television series. This comic looks to be much better than the TV program however so I am much more inclined to read the book.

It’s high-stakes espionage in the Marvel Universe in this brand-new series inspired by the hit television show Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The good news for Phil Coulson is that he’s been reunited with his former love, Lola – who, it turns out, is not a flying car. The bad news is that she turned his mind into a weapon that could destroy the Marvel Universe! Tony Stark guest-stars!

COLLECTING: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. 1-6, All-New, All-Different Point One 1 (SHIELD story)

Garbage Pail Kids – IDW Publishing – $19.99.  This was a bit of a stretch for me as far as “As Seen on TV” goes. Apparently, there was a short-lived television series that never aired in the United States. That’s okay, as the nostalgia works for me as an 80s kid who collected the cards.

Remember mullets and teased bangs? Stonewashed denim jackets and jeans? Well, not everything about the ‘80s was lame, because that’s when the Garbage Pail Kids ruled the world! Those irreverent, satirical stickers quickly became a pop-culture phenomenon, but they never had their own comic book… until now! In the spirit of the avant-garde cartoonists and humorists who fathered these miscreants, a new generation of alternative-comics creators has lent their unique talents to bring the Garbage Pail Kids into the wacky world of comics.

Rick & Morty: Volume 1 – Oni Press Inc. – $9.99. I had not watched this show on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim programming until just a couple of months ago. I was totally enthralled despite not really knowing what was going on.  The comic book shows promise of providing similar entertainment.

The hit comic book series based on Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland’s hilarious [adult swim] animated show RICK & MORTY is now available in its first collection! Join the excitement as depraved genius Rick Sanchez embarks on insane adventures with his awkward grandson Morty across the universe and across time. Caught in the crossfire are his teenage granddaughter Summer, his veterinary surgeon daughter Beth, and his hapless son-in-law Jerry. This collection features the first five issues of the comic book series, including ““The Wubba Lubba Dub Dub of Wall Street,” “Mort-Balls!” and more, along with hilarious mini-comics showcasing the whole family.

As Seen on TV bookmark. It looks like a remote control with superhero symbols on one side and Comic Bento social media information on the other.

Comic Bento is such an awesome value! All four of these books were packaged so well together and arrived in spectacular condition. As stated earlier, there is a theme but there’s also a ton of variety, and the theming of this box is pretty unique amongst comic subscriptions. The curator’s notes really bring the theme together, and that made this box even more awesome! Next month is the 90s! Just in time for my birthday will be a fantastic decade. Sure, most would think that it was all heroes with pouches, little heads on men, large chests on women, no feet, and vacuum cleaner handles for guns but there are some real gems from the 90s that could turn anyone into a comic fan. I know a few that I would vote for.
