For September, Cocotique is celebrating its 3 year anniversary!  The theme is It’s All About That Magic!  Cocotique is a deluxe beauty box subscription service for women of color and diverse ethnicities.  Each month Cocotique will ship to your door a specially curated deluxe box filled with 5-8 sample size and full size beauty and lifestyle products for just $20 including free shipping.  After trying out your samples, you can then purchase the full size products in the Cocotique Shop.  Cocotique offers an exciting and fun experience for women of color who love beauty and are in search of an affordable way to try new beauty and lifestyle brands.

The “magic” that is the 3-year anniversary box!

Black Radiance Body Building Mascara ($2.99):  This is currently on sale for $1.49 at Black Radiance.  A smudge-proof and water resistant mascara that claims to deliver 5x the volume.  Someone must really want me to try this mascara; this is the 2nd box this month that has sent it to me.  I haven’t tried this yet but will soon for fear of getting another tube if I don’t.

Cover FX Clear Cover Invisible Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 30 ($4.50):  This is a totally transparent sunscreen that moisturizes, brightens, nourishes, and protects all in one ultra-lightweight formula.  Squalane and natural sesame extract nourish, soften, and moisturize skin, while antioxidants from tomato extract help boost the skin’s ability to defend itself against free radicals, sun damage, pollution, and other environmental aggressors.  This came at the perfect time.  I recently switched facial creams and my new one doesn’t have SPF coverage.  As someone who spends a lot of time outdoors, sunscreen is a must.

Dr. Marder Total Relief Shampoo and Conditioner ($4.00 each):  The shampoo contains cortisone to help soothe and itchy scalp, and the conditioner is formulated with pyrithione zinc to treat conditions such as dandruff.  I don’t have any scalp issues but decided to give this a try anyway.  I had to use double the amount of shampoo as I normally use just to build a decent lather.  Also, the shampoo left my hair feeling like straw.  Thank goodness for the conditioner.  I used the same amount as the shampoo, and this had great results.  It easily worked through my curls and left my hair feeling soft and conditioned without added weight.  The scent is fresh, but does have a little medicinal touch to it.

Tree Hut Bare Moisturizing Shave Oil ($11.99):  This formula contains a blend of oils including sesame, argan, jojoba, and grapeseed along with shea butter and Vitamin E to moisturize and protect skin while you shave.  The oil allows your razor to easily glide over skin which helps prevent nicks.  I’m a little overloaded on shave bars and oils at the moment, so I’ll wait to use this.

TriDerma Extreme Dryness Plus ($15.99):  First of all, I was surprised by how pricey this cream is.  And secondly, it really lives up to its claims.  This absorbed quickly and did not leave a greasy residue on my skin.  Although this is a heavy duty cream, it wears like a light lotion.  24 hours later, and my skin didn’t feel or look dry.  I am gifting this to my grandmother who suffers from severe dry skin.

Hype Hair Magazine (One-Year Email Subscription):  I wasn’t able to find a value for this, but can tell you that there have been some interesting articles with featured celebs and lots of great hair styling tip for WOC.  The October edition features an interview with Gabrielle Union.

Ginger + Liz Colour Collection Nail Laquer Skinny ($12.00 for full size):  I am not sure of the value on this bottle; it is smaller than the full-sized versions on the website.  My guess is $4 which is comparable to the Nicka K New York Silver Star Nail Polish that some subscribers received instead.  The color I received is called Happy Wife Happy Life and is a textured rose pink foil metallic with contrasting pink tones of holographic glitter and tiny black specs for extra dimension.

Novex Argan Oil Deep Conditioning Hair Mask ($2.50 approx.):  I was happy to see this formula arrive in my box.  I’ve received Novex’s Brazilian Keratin formula several times this year (some subscribers got that as an alternate) and really like the results, so I hope works just as well.

Happy 3rd Anniversary to Cocotique!  This box has an estimated value of $50.  That is more than double the cost of a single box.  I am happy to see a variety of products and think this box really was a “Thank You” to subscribers for hanging in there with Cocotique.  The TriDerma cream is my favorite item this month, and I think it will be great for treating my grandma’s dry skin.
