Birchbox is a beauty sample subscription box with at least 5 new items to test out each month. Birchbox is $10 a month and formerly featured an extensive points/review system that they have removed in favor of 50 points total ($5 in the shop). You can find more about the Birchbox review program changes here.

Did anyone else receive a fun label? It matched the theme this month.

No Peeking!

The October box design is pretty. I never save them except for the Rifle Paper boxes. I would prefer to see Birchbox invest into their matching system. I am not buying Birchbox because of the packaging.

The theme card discussed the inspiration for the box theme. Slowing down and taking a breather sounds wonderful.

Birchbox - October 2016
Birchbox – October 2016

Here are my items in my October 2016 Birchbox. I wanted to select a sample this month and experienced issues. So no Tata Haper for me. There is no box picture because I was shocked to receive a redesigned shipping box when benefits to subscribers have been cut over the last few months.

Parlor
Parlor

My teenage son has received Parlor in subscription boxes and will use these products. The unisex Parlor Moisturizing & Repairing Shampoo (1 oz, $2.75) and the Parlor Moisturizing & Repairing Conditioner (.41 oz, $1.13) has notes of ripe peach, fresh cut grass, and white woods. Birchbox selected the shampoo and conditioner combination for my frizzy hair. The shampoo and conditioner are gluten-free, paraben-free, sulfate-free, and color-safe. Both products are made in the USA.

Clarins Energy VBooster
Clarins Energy Booster

I was going to try the Clarins Energy Booster (.02 oz, $1.56) on the back of my hand until I saw it needed to be mixed in with a face cream or mask. I cut it open to see if it had a scent and proceeded to drip the booster all over my hands.

Clarins Day Cream
Clarins Day Cream

The Clarins Multi Day Cream (.1 oz, $3.12) has a light pleasant scent. I rubbed it on my hand and was surprised how heavy it felt for a day cream. It does have a wonderful scent. I will not be using it on my face because Clarins recommends different products for rosacea. I also have no interest in the French luxury brand. I am sure others will love it!

Hustle Butter Luxe
Hustle Butter Luxe

The Hustle Butter Luxe (no size given, $2.00-$4.00) is a multipurpose cream that has a light scent. It can be used as a makeup remover, hand cream, cuts, and more. I will give it to my teenage son to keep in his sports bag.

Clean Perfume
Clean Perfume

The Clean Skin Eau de Parfum (.03 oz, $1.01) has a light vanilla musk scent to it. My husband thought it smelled like soap on my wrists. At this point, my box is worth approximately $11.57-$13.57 if I did my math right which explains, in my eyes, why I received the next item instead of one of the October sample choices that I was unable to select.

Marcelle Curling & Lengthening Mascara
Marcelle Curling & Lengthening Mascara

Look what is in my box. It’s the Marcelle Curling & Lengthening Mascara (appx $7.50) from the July Sample Choices. The wand is a hit according to Birchbox reviews. It curls, separates and leaves no clumps which is what I would look for in a mascara if I used mascara.

It seems like I am always hating on Birchbox. I do order from their shop for my sister, my teenage son, and myself. I paid $6.42 for this box using the Aces Black Friday discount last year. The value of my October is around $20.00 being that the value of the Hustle Butter Luxe is an unknown. I would be incredibly disappointed if I paid $10.00 for this box.

It is a discovery box that offers an opportunity to sample different beauty products. The excitement of selecting a sample or a curated box is something that subscribers do enjoy. Birchbox is an inexpensive way to try out different beauty brands each month.

Super excited about the curated box this month! Was bummed that my sample choice from last month didn’t make it in my box 🙁 But I love my Birchbox and I’ve found SO many amazing products through this service.
