Target periodically sells non-subscription Target Beauty Boxes.  Depending on the contents, they are themed and cost $5-10, and sell out quickly!  Unfortunately, this box has sold out.  Click here to make sure you don’t miss out on the next one and sign up for the daily or weekly newsletter.  September’s boxes were themed fall RIGHT IN.  Although this isn’t a subscription, Target does own DermStore, and hence, does have a subscription box – BeautyFix! See all our BeautyFix posts here if you’re interested in that subscription.

My first look in this month’s Target Beauty Box.

20160909_120842

Everything in the box – just $10!  There were 3 items calling me to this box:  the Biore cleanser, the OGX shampoo/conditioner, and the Maybelline mascara.  It doesn’t take much to make me happy.

Biore Baking Soda Pore Cleanser ($0.88):  Introducing, the newest Biore weapon in the fight for clean pores: Baking Soda! This everyday liquid cleanser deep cleans and exfoliates dirt and oil from pores, leaving skin clean, soft and smooth. Great for Combination Skin.

I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this cleanser.  I received a baking soda formula in another box and loved how well it cleaned my skin.  Plus, the baking soda crystals provided a bit of mild exfoliation.  This did not disappoint as far as cleaning and exfoliating were concerned.  However, this is strongly scented.  If you are sensitive, then I would avoid this.

Maybelline Volum’ Express The Falsies Push Up Drama Mascara – Very Black ($7.49):  Attitude. Style. Drama. Lashes. You like to push it up. And now you can push the limits with the first ever cup-shaped bristles that lift your lashes to dramatic heights. What is it best for? Volume. Lift. Drama. Over-the-top lashes for a glammed up look. When you don’t want to just arrive, but want to make an entrance.

The brush is the major difference with this mascara.  It is described as a push up cup brush with cup-shaped bristles that scoop and lift lashes.

If you’ve read any of my other beauty box reviews, you’ve heard my woes on having short, thin lashes.  I was so excited to try this mascara since it promised over the top drama.  As you can see from above, it delivered.  The left photo shows my bare lashes.  On the right, I’ve curled my lashes and applied 2 coats of mascara (upper lashes only).

EDEN BodyWorks JojOba Monoi Deep Conditioner ($0.94):  JojOba Monoi Deep Conditioner strengthens hair through its botanical combination of Coconut, Jojoba, and Monoi. Formulated to replenish hair strength and restore hair’s natural beauty from over processing, damage, and dryness. JojOba Monoi Deep Conditioner is fortified to balance the hair’s moisture level, resulting in stronger, healthier, more manageable hair. Excellent deep conditioner for all textures and hair types.

For me, EDEN BodyWorks products are either hit or miss.  Unfortunately, this week has been hectic, and I didn’t have an additional 15-30 minutes to use this conditioning treatment.  It will have to wait for my next day off, which will be an at-home spa day to recover from the last couple of weeks.

OGX Coconut Milk Shampoo OR ($0.90):  Organix Coconut Milk Shampoo’s hydrating formula softens and conditions your hair. Its special blend is made up of coconut milk, for nourshing, egg white proteins, for strengthening and elasticity, and coconut oils, for hydrating and balance. This shampoo will make your hair look, feel and smell great.

Some subscribers received the OGX Coconut Milk Conditioner as an alternate.  I really wish that I had gotten both the shampoo and the conditioner instead of just one.  Oh, well!  This was the first formula that I tried from OGX; back then they were Organix.  I think I stopped using this because they came out with so many other formulas that I wanted to try.  Once I used this, I remembered why I loved it so much.  I noticed an immediate difference to the feel of my hair – softer and smoother.  Think this is coming back into my hair routine.

S.W. Basics Organic Lip Balm – Cinnamon ($3.80): No one likes lip balms that leave your lips feeling sticky and waxy. S.W. Basics Lip Balm Flights are collections of four rich, moisturizing lip treatments made simply with only cocoa butter, beeswax, coconut oil, and delicately scented with pure essential oils. Each one is USDA Certified Organic, so they’re free of synthetic chemicals and genetically engineered organisms.

These are also available in Peppermint, Cocoa, or Citrus flavors.  Cinnamon is my least favorite flavor in the assortment, so of course it’s the one that I got.  The cinnamon fragrance hits you immediately, and it lasts thanks to the use of essential oils.  My lips immediately felt moisturized and softer.  While this does not leave your lips feeling sticky or waxy, mine do feel a bit greasy.  I would say that less is more with this lip balm.

Laneige Water Bank Moisture Cream ($12.80):  Strengthen and prolong skin’s moisture for 24 hours. Hydro Ionized Mineral Water replenishes and maintains ideal moisture levels. Nourishing plant – derived Squalane and Glasswort work to fortify skin’s moisture barrier, helping prevent moisture loss. This rich, luxurious cream melts into skin to comfort dry, irritated skin.

I received this as part of the May Target Beauty Box, but passed it on since it is geared towards dry to normal skin.  I have normal to oily, and many products that are overly rich tend to cause breakouts on me.  If you are unfamiliar with the brand, Laneige is part of the high-end South Korean cosmetics company Amore Pacific, and their focus is around the use of “superior water” to hydrate, protect, and revitalize skin.

Rimmel The Only 1 Lipstick – Naughty Nude ($6.99):  A no compromise ALL IN ONE lipstick! Long-lasting colour, comfort, moisture and wear. Slanted lipstick bullet for an effortless application.

As you can see, this shade is most definitely not Naughty Nude.  In fact, it’s called One-of-a-Kind and is a brick red shade.  I’m not sure whether to be disappointed or not – wanted a nude, but this red looks good on me too.  The slanted bullet makes for a wide application which is great, except when applying around my cupid’s bow.  I ended up going just slightly over my natural lip line.  Otherwise, I really like the formula and found that it held true to its claims.

So, for $10, I received nearly $34 worth of products!  I love the ROI from this box – it satisfies my need to get a good bargain.  The Laneige cream was 1/3 of the value and a repeated item for me.  So, I’m kind of bummed about that, but someone else will benefit from my gifting.  My favorite items are the OGX shampoo and mascara.  The great thing is that full-sized versions of the products are at my Target and reasonably priced.  I can look good without breaking the bank.  Did you find a new fall must have in the September Target Beauty Box?  Share by leaving a comment below.  Also, be sure to sign up for the daily or weekly newsletter so you don’t miss the next box!
