September’s OwlCrate theme is Darkness and since I love some darkness in my books I was ready to dig right in.   Owl Crate is a monthly subscription of books and bookish items box.  Each OwlCrate contains one new Young Adult novel, as well as 3-5 other bookish items all matched to the monthly theme.

First look and in the box and at what looked like a bouncing ball which of course I knew it wasn’t but that was the first thing that came to my mind.

The information card tells a little bit about all the goodies in the box. This is so neat and at first I thought it was really pretty and then I realized that its like a casket and thought well that is dark but still really pretty.

owlcrate_sept2016_threedarkcrowns

Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake ($10.83) – Oh nice this one is all about royalty, witches, and family and it sounds AWESOME! I can’t wait to see who comes out on top.

In every generation on the island of Fennbirn, a set of triplets is born: three queens, all equal heirs to the crown and each possessor of a coveted magic. Mirabella is a fierce elemental, able to spark hungry flames or vicious storms at the snap of her fingers. Katharine is a poisoner, one who can ingest the deadliest poisons without so much as a stomachache. Arsinoe, a naturalist, is said to have the ability to bloom the reddest rose and control the fiercest of lions.

But becoming the Queen Crowned isn’t solely a matter of royal birth. Each sister has to fight for it. And it’s not just a game of win or lose…it’s life or death. The night the sisters turn sixteen, the battle begins.

The last queen standing gets the crown.

It also came with a note from the author, a fortune teller game, and a signature card.

owlcrate_sept2016_candle

Celaena’s Cake candle from The Melting Library – This was made exclusively for OwlCrate and was inspired by the Throne of Glass series.  The candle felt a little soft when it got here but it smells great and I’m hoping that was just due to the humidity outside here in NC today.

owlcrate_sept2016_fortunetellingbomb

Fortune Telling Bomb by Da Bomb bath fizzers ($7.50) – OwlCrate tells us that they thought of the psychics from 300 Fox Way in the Raven Cycle series when they saw these bombs.  I’m all about a good bath and a good book and this looks so fun. You ask a question and then get in the bath and the fizzer will give you a yes or no question as it dissolves.  It is like its own Magic 8 ball.  I was looking over the Da Bomb website and they have lots of huge and fun bath fizzers on there.  This really is so bug for a bath fizzer and why I thought it was a bouncy ball when I first saw it in the box.

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children pouch from Out of Print (this isn’t up on the site yet but others go for $12) – I have never read these books but I’ve seen the previews for the movie and it looks really good.  I was just talking to a friend about reading the books.  I’m trying to decide if I need to read them before I see the movie.  I usually try to but not sure I’ll make it before this one.  The pouch is really nice however the bottom print is a bit fuzzy however with the handwritten type font it blends in.

An exclusive bookmark from Evie Bookish paying tribute to the Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo just in time for the upcoming release.

owlcrate_sept2016_passport

Passport ad booklet – This is really pretty cute. I was going through the items and came across this and it is an ad for the new P.C. Cast book Moon Chosen that comes out in Oct.

When you open the passport it had a bit of info and then a couple pages of an excerpt with coloring pages mixed in.  A great way to advertise a new book and one that really got my attention.

owlcrate_sept2016_remade

Remade Episode 1 Shadows & Dreams – So this is a new concept for me all together. Reading a book like you would watch tv, one episode a week.  Remade is going to be 15 episodes that will go through the end of the year with one episode released each week and written by a collection of writers. I find this concept interesting and I’m going to have to see how I like it once I start reading.

Every minute, 108 people die. This fall, in one of those minutes, twenty-three of those deaths will be teenagers. Now they are humanity’s last hope for survival. Awakened in a post-apocalyptic world and hunted by mechanical horrors, these teens search for answers amidst the ruins of civilization. Fate, love, and loyalty face off in this adrenaline-pumping YA adventure.

I love getting my OwlCrate in the mail each month and checking out all the box nerd goodies.  This month was no expection and I’m loving everything.  Since I’m just getting back into my YA loving heart I have not read any of these books that were represented this month but I’ve added them to my check out list. I love that I get such great recommendations each month.

Next month’s theme is Once Upon a Dream and my Disney loving heart is already swooning.  Then I look at the sneak peek and they tell us we will get an item from Whosits and Whatsits and my head goes straight to Ariel and I’m singing along in my head. Now if you weren’t singing already I bet you are now. You’re Welcome!
