Everything arrives individually wrapped in butcher paper and sealed with a MOUTH sticker.  I see 2 sweeter popcorn snacks!  This caramel corn lover is getting excited.

The box had an information sheet which gave an overview of each popcorn and location for the producers.

Chili Lab Popcorn by Pipcorn in Brooklyn, NY ($4.88):  Turn up the heat!! Chili Lab is for the brave of heart! Using three different chilis: Piri Piri, Aji Amarillo and Calabrian, this flavor is sure to make our hot heads out there very happy!!

The price listed is based on the current sale price found at www.pipsnacks.com.  This brand was also featured in last month’s box.  While not overtly spicy, this is not for children.  The heat creeps up on your tongue and then stays.  We agreed that this would be a good bar or gameday snack.  An ice cold beer would help tame the heat.  I loved that Pipcorn included the Scoville units for each of the peppers featured on the back of the bag.  For reference, jalapenos fall into the 3.5K-10K range.  Piri Piri, the hottest pepper in the blend, falls into the 50K-100K heat range.

Chai Masala with Assam Tea Spiced Popcorn by Masala Pop in Portland, OR ($5.33):   Sweet and lively with a smooth finish—savasana for your taste buds. This sweet flavor is infused with black Assam tea and chai spices… Try it post-yoga with a cup of hot tea. 

This vegan popcorn was so delicious and really did taste like a good cup of chai.  The kernels were fluffy, and you could see the spices in the caramel on each piece.  Sorry, I didn’t realize how small my picture ended up, but the back of the bag has some interesting information.  It provides the origin story for Masala Pop, as well as potential allergen information, a chew warning for those pesky unpopped kernels, and information on Masala Pop’s commitment to the community.

Dark & Stormy Caramel Popcorn by Butter & Scotch in Brooklyn, NY ($8.00):  Butter & Scotch’s Cocktail Caramel Corns are inspired by three seductive libations: Dark & Stormy, Spicy Margarita, and Hot Toddy! These grown-up versions of the classic snack are salty, sweet, crunchy, and totally crave-worthy. Dark & Stormy – Fresh ginger and lime zest combine with dark sugar rum flavors to give this corn a sweet-spicy kick.

The Dark & Stormy cocktail is the national drink of Bermuda and is simple to make – combine a good quality dark rum with an equally good ginger beer, pour over ice, and garnish with a lime wedge.  The caramel for this recipe features Gosling’s Black Seal Rum, grated ginger, and lime zest.  I am not a big fan of ginger, but this was my favorite popcorn from the August box.  You can taste the booze, but it’s not overwhelming thanks to the burst of brightness from the ginger and lime.  I had to have this taken away from me so that I didn’t eat the whole bag in one sitting.

I’ve mentioned it before, my household loves popcorn.  So this subscription is a ton of fun for us to get each month.  I highly recommend it as a gift if you know someone who appreciates popcorn the way we do.  I was super excited to get two sweet flavors this month.  With football season starting up, the Chili Lab Pipcorn will be great for gameday festivities.  Can’t wait to see what next month brings.
