The GlobeIn Artisan Basket is a subscription that sends 4-5 handcrafted products from around the world that are curated around a theme to your home each month. In addition, each monthly shipment includes a gorgeous handmade basket. All items are produced either by collectives that are fair trade certified or that respect and adhere to fair trade principles.  All artisans and farmers whose products are distributed by GlobeIn are paid a fair wage for their products.

GlobeIn is committed to empowering artisans around the world by providing them with a global distribution network for their goods. With each shipment, you’ll get to learn about the artisans and communities your purchase has helped to support. Subscriptions cost $40/month, but the price can go as low as $35/month with a longer subscription. For those who are interested in receiving one handmade product inside a beautiful handmade basket for $19.95 each month, GlobeIn also produces a Benefit Box.

The theme for September 2016’s Artisan Box is Threads. Anne Klein’s quote seems especially apropos: “Clothes aren’t going to change the world. The women who wear them will.”

IMG_9473My GlobeIn Artisan Box arrived in an attractive GlobeIn signature cardboard box and was wrapped in turquoise tissue paper and sealed with a sticker.

IMG_9498The Threads Box contains the following items: a shirt, bag tassel, clutch, gift card and either a palm basket or a bandana.

IMG_9497

GlobeIn consulted customers’ profiles to determine their t-shirt size and whether they’d like to receive the default palm basket or the bandana substitute. Since I’m reviewing the Artisan Box, I got both, but this is not the norm.

IMG_9477Each month’s Artisan Box arrives along with a booklet that details the stories and makers behind the contents of the box.

IMG_9478Although I remember news coverage of 2013’s collapse of a clothing factory in Bangladesh, I had no idea it had led to a formal movement called the Fashion Revolution. I think that’s wonderful. I’m thrilled that GlobeIn is giving me the opportunity to participate in the Fashion Revolution through my purchase of the Threads box this month.

IMG_9479The Vicky Tee is produced by Wildlife Works in Kenya. It’s made from 100% cotton fabric and looks great on.

IMG_9494I love the tree of life motif, and I love knowing that, through my subscription, I have helped Vicky move one step closer to starting her own fashion line.

IMG_9480The Tassel Bag Charm was produced by Mi Esperanza in Honduras and distributed through Tribe Alive.

IMG_9496

I had never heard of a tassel bag charm before receiving this, but now that I have one, I like the idea! This could easily be used as a key chain as well.

IMG_9481The foldover clutch was produced by Seen Unseen in Jaipur, India, and distributed by Tribe Alive.

It’s essentially a large pouch with different designs on either side.

IMG_9487When you fold over the top to get your clutch, you actually have two different styles to choose from.

IMG_9489

I love them both!

This is the first time I’ve received a gift card from GlobeIn. They claim that it’s a $50 gift card to use toward the purchase of shoes from The Root Collective in Guatemala. The Root Collective was started by a former gang member who had a change of heart. Now he works with other former gang members, providing them with training and jobs producing shoes so that they may earn a living wage.

IMG_9474Since it’s a one time only code, I’m not showing it here, but I will say that I went to The Root Collective’s website and was unable to use the gift card. I tried inputting it as both a coupon and as a gift card. Neither worked. I tried using it to purchase a pair of shoes on sale, but that didn’t work. Next, I tried using it to cover a portion of the cost of a non-discounted pair of shoes. That didn’t work either. I was left disappointed, but it’s possible that my issues were due to the fact that my box was received for review (or the codes may be inactive until . For what it’s worth, The Root Collective does make gorgeous shoes!

IMG_9484I love GlobeIn baskets ($12 or 3 for $30)! They are produced by a weaving collective in Oaxaca, Mexico, specifically for GlobeIn, using previously discarded palm fronds and water-based paints. Each basket is 6″ in diameter and 5″ tall.

IMG_9486When my kids aren’t running around the house wearing these as hats, I use them to contain their toys.

IMG_9483

Based on subscribers’ preferences, some may receive a bandana in lieu of  GlobeIn signature palm basket this month.

IMG_9492This attractive bandana was produced by Della in Ghana.

IMG_9493

GlobeIn recommends wearing it either tied around your neck or around your hair.

IMG_9551

I used it to secure my hair in a ponytail.

IMG_9548Here’s the completed look!

IMG_9549My husband loves the shirt, and I love both the clutch and the shirt! I also love that I can change up the styling of the clutch whenever I want.

IMG_9550I also think the purse tassel is attractive attached to my go-to summer bag. It’s a keeper!

I really liked this month’s Threads box! I’m bummed that I couldn’t get my $50 gift certificate to work, but I loved the shirt, clutch, tassle and bandana/basket! I look forward to receiving this subscription each month and can’t wait to see what they come up with next month!
