Birchbox - September 2016
Birchbox – September 2016

Here are my items in my September 2016 Birchbox. Lots of items this month.

Beautiful Nutrition Lemon Rinse
Beautiful Nutrition Lemon Rinse

The Beautiful Nutrition Lemon Rinse (2.0 oz, $1.50) balances the pH balance of your hair and removes buildup. It also makes your hair shiny by sealing the cuticles. It has a slight lemon scent and contains lemon oil and lemon peel oil. It has great reviews on Birchbox.

I decided not to use it because I was unable to determine the country of origin. Both Beautiful Nutrition, a USA company, and Nutri-Cert, a UK company, are listed. At first, I thought Nutri-Cert was a certification, but it is a company. The bottle says “BN MADE”. The full-size bottle on Amazon says “Made by US.”  So I mosey over to the Beautiful Nutrition website, and there is no information on their About Page. It is one of life’s beauty mysteries.

Bioderma Sensible H2)
Bioderma Sensibio H2O

Birchbox selected the Bioderma Sensibio H2O (10 ml, $0.33) for me because it helps “prevents redness and rosacea.” I found this information when looking at my September box online. I was excited to try it because Bioderma is made in France! The formula can be used on sensitive skin and contains cucumber extract.

However, it left a burning sensation on my face. I am glad I tried it on a small spot on my cheek. I checked the ingredients again and took a closer look at the ingredient Fructooligosaccharides which is normally used as an alternative sweetener in foods such as syrups. It is also used as an alternative to retinol because it is gentler. I am sensitive to retinol and am wondering if the Fructooligosaccharides is what caused the burning sensation even though it is gentler than retinol.

Unwash Bio-Cleansig conditioner
Unwash Bio-Cleansing Conditioner

Birchbox selected the Unwash Bio-Cleansing Conditioner (2.5 oz, $6.65) because I have thick hair. The made in the USA cleansing conditioner is safe for color-treated hair and is free of sulfates. It helps reduces frizz and adds shine to the hair. I had a bad experience with a cleansing conditioner and will pass it to my sister who loves them.

Oribe Cote d'Azur Replensing Body Wash & Resorative Body Creme

Birchbox, please send my Oribe products to someone who loves Oribe. Hint, it is not me. The vegan, cruelty-free Oribe Côte d’Azur Replenishing Body Wash (.41 oz, $2.03) lathers well and has a scent that I like. The Côte d’Azur scent is a blend of bergamot, black currant, Sicilian orange, jasmine, sandalwood, and amber. It is free of parabens, mineral oil, and gluten.

The Oribe Côte D’Azure Restorative Body Crème (.41 oz, $4.50) has the same intoxicating scent as the body wash. I am positive I smelled that scent before although I can’t place it. The crème is rich and rubs easily into the skin. I ended up washing it off because it bothered my allergies which surprised me. Oribe is made in the USA.

LOC Ultra-Gloss Lip Pencil - Purple Reign
LOC Ultra-Gloss Lip Pencil – Purple Reign

Birchbox’s brand LOC Ultra-Gloss Lip Pencil in Purple Reign (0.09 oz. $8.33) is made in Germany and is free of cruelty and parabens. The tip broke clean off when I tried to swatched it and had no way of sharpening it. The color looks pretty.

Milk
Milk Makeup Lip + Cheek

Birchbox selected the Milk Makeup Lip + Cheek in Perk (.1 oz, $2.40) because I did not select a sample this month. I read Birchbox’s description and decided to apply it to my cheeks with my eyes closed. It’s easy to apply, goes on lightly, and rubs in with little effort. It is made in the USA.

Swatch
Swatch

The top swatch is the LOC Ultra-Gloss Lip Pencil – Purple Reign. The swatch looks strange because the tip broke off while I swatched it. The bottom swatch is the Milk Makeup Lip + Cheek in Perk. I applied it a few times in order for it to show up well in the photo.

From the $0.33 sample that caused a burning sensation to my face to the mystery of the Beautiful Nutrition Lemon Rinse to the Oribe products that I cannot escape, my September box was anything but dull.  Occasionally I do find products that I love enough to purchase the full size such as the Coola Primer from last month’s box. This month was not one of those months.  My box is worth approximately $25.00. Birchbox is a good box for those that want to try a variety of products each month.

I received the Lemi Rinse too plus a micellar water for oily, acne-prone skin (I am in my 40’s), plus a cleansing conditioner once again for coarse, dry hair even though mine is as fine as it gets. I also received the MILK blush, which was my sample choice, and a mascara. I would love to try the lotion and body wash but never seem to get body products!

I listed my beauty style as low maintenance in the survey to avoid most makeup products. Maybe that is why I receive body products???

I also checked my account and verified that I received five Oribe samples in the last three months.
