SnackFever is a monthly subscription box that delivers all your favorite Korean snacks, as well as other hard-to-find Korean treats. Each month, subscribers will get 5 to 12 Korean snacks and treats, depending on their subscription. Snack Fever is available in three boxes, the mini box, the original box, and the deluxe box, and subscriptions are $12, $20, and $40, respectively, every month.  Going forward, the Snack Fever boxes will be themed.  For August, SnackFever partnered with the website Viki to help K-Drama fans enjoy their binge watching sessions even more.

Introducing the SnackFever Viki Binge Box.  In honor of this collaboration, the box is Viki blue and has a fun interior design.  Viki is a global TV site, where millions of people watch their favorite shows, movies, celebrity news and more — subtitled into 200+ languages by a community of avid fans.  Got your box ready?  Open the lid and hit play.  Let the shows begin!

Fast-forwarding a bit… Once everything is out of the box, this is the bottom interior panel.  It should look familiar – it was the teaser from last month’s note card.

Forget about the massive amount of snacking that this box will cover…  I see swoon-worthy oppas on a sticker sheet!  Aaahhhh!!!  OMG!!!

The SnackFever team has recently started to teach subscribers Korean, one word at a time.  This month’s word is vacation, 휴가 (hyu-gah).  In a way, your Viki binge session is a vacation from reality.  For more on learning to read/write Korean, click here.

I’m only showing information on the Deluxe box, but the brochure does include the contents of the mini and original boxes.  (Brandy covers the Original box review.)  To see the contents of all 3 boxes, you can see the Original box review here.

Nom, nom, nom… That’s the sound of me plowing through this box while catching up on my dramas. ? ? ?

Pocari Sweat:  Gross sounding name, but good drink.  Think of it this way, Pocari is replacing the electrolytes you’ve lost in your sweat.  It’s rehydrating you by mimicking what you’ve lost.  It’s a stretch, but I tried.  This Japanese drink is the Asian equivalent to Gatorade and a favorite in Korea.  Like most sports-related beverages, it does have a hint of saltiness to it but no worse than others.  The grapefruit flavor is lighter and refreshing.

Cheon Yeon Cider:  This is described as a sweet cider with a hint of cream soda flavor.  To me, it was a sweetened sparkling water with a bubblegum/fruit taste (sort of like Juicy Fruit gum).  Considering I don’t like cream soda, I was happy with the flavor.  The cider is mildly carbonated and easy to drink.

Real Candy – Orange:  YUM!  As a kid, my favorite lollipops were the Lifesavers swirl pops (fruit and creme).  These reminded me of the those, but with a milder orange flavor.  I can eat these all day.

Orion Wahng “King” Gummy Worms:  So 2 things.  First, the talk bubble on the package translates to “all natural coloring”.  I was hoping it would have been something funnier based on the graphic.  And secondly, I concluded that the bag contains a few “lesser” worms (2 different fruit flavors) and one King worm (cola flavored).  I blindly pulled a worm out and happily munched away until I realized that he was the only one that was longer and cola.  By the way, these were some of the softest gummies I’d ever had but in a good way.

Here’s a look at one of the smaller worms – about the size of my pinkie finger.  I loved the details on these.

Ottogi Ppushu Ppushu (Dry Ramyun Snack) – Bulgogi Flavor:  부셔 (ppushu) is Korean for break down/apart.  The idea behind this snack is to break the ramyum into smaller pieces and flavor with the seasoning packet for a crunchy treat.  I am no stranger to eating uncooked ramyum, but I tend to leave out the flavoring, so this wasn’t as odd for me as it may seem.  The bulgogi flavoring was a little sweeter than I would have liked but not bad.  Word of advice – go light with the seasoning packet.  You can always add more, but you can’t take any away.

Crown ChocoHeim Cookie:  I’ve gotten these before (and in other flavors).  This a a wafer cookie with a chocolate hazelnut filling.  Thankfully they are individually wrapped, which keeps me from eating them all in one sitting.

Haitai Honey Tong Tong – Honey Butter & Corn:  Creamed corn is one of my favorite sides, and this tastes EXACTLY like that in chip form!  This is a buttery, puffed waffle chip.  In my house, this was one of those love or hate snacks. I am team love all the way.

Haitai Panda Chocokit:  These DIY dessert kits are super cute, but I’m not sure that I have the patience or attention to put these together while engrossed in a drama.  The idea is to pipe the chocolate onto the base cookie (tray), top with the design, chill, and enjoy.  They were good, but I’ll take a pre-assembled version for binge watching sessions.

Jayone Roasted Rice Snack:  I’ve gotten these before but in a different flavor.  This sweetened rice cracker is an old school treat.  Not quite as good as the crispy rice left in the bottom of the pot but a nice substitute.

20160907_120355

Paldo Pororo Roasted Seaweed Snack:  Cute cartoon penguin Pororo brings this snack of roasted seaweed sheets.  Not much to say other than this was very oily – there was a pool in the bottom of the tray.

20160907_120331

Paldo Bibim Myun:  The noodles used for this are slightly thinner than regular ramyun noodles; they are closer to somyun noodles in diameter.  Cook the noodles as you would ramyun, but then rinse in cold water and drain.  Add the flavor packet (mixture of gochujang and other spices) and any namul (seasononed vegetable dishes) if you have it.  Then, enjoy.  I don’t know why I haven’t bought these before.  The flavor is the same as when I make this from scratch, and it’s great for those rare times I run out of gochujang.

20160907_120001

O-Taste Gondre (Thistle) Rice Cup:  An instant cup of rice featuring gondre (gohn-deu-reh) or thistle leaves.  This is a simple and traditional dish.  Add the roasted seaweed or your favorite banchan (side dish) to make a complete meal in under 5 minutes.

20160907_120130

SDC Food Soy Chip: Similar to the SnackFever favorite, blueberry chip.  This is tasty and packed with fiber.  Munch away without too much guilt.
