August’s OwlCrate theme is Fast Times at YA High and I was excited with this theme since I’m old enough to remember the movie that it references and I’m really hoping the book this month is as classic as the movie is. Owl Crate is a monthly subscription of books and bookish items box. Each OwlCrate contains one new Young Adult novel, as well as 3-5 other bookish items all matched to the monthly theme.
First look and I couldn’t tell what was in here. The one thing I might have been able to see was upside down so everything was a real surprise as I was pulling it out.
The information card tells a little bit about all the goodies in the box. I love the look of this one with everything looking like its little notes you would stick up on your board.
Everything in the August OwlCrate.
P.S. I Like You by Kasie West ($10.58) – This one sounds like straight up YA romance novel and I can’t wait to read it. While I am well over the YA range myself I love to read the books and go back in time and remember all those firsts.
Signed, sealed, delivered…
While spacing out in Chemistry class, Lily scribbles some of her favorite song lyrics onto her desk. The next day, she finds that someone has continued the lyrics on the desk, and added a message to her. Intrigue!
Soon, Lily and her anonymous pen pal are exchanging full-on letters — sharing secrets, recommending bands, and opening up to each other. Lily realizes she’s kind of falling for this letter writer. Only who is he? As Lily attempts to unravel the mystery, and juggle school, friends, crushes, and her crazy family, she discovers that matters of the heart can’t always be spelled out…
It also came with a note from the authors and a signature card.
Who can relate with this one? I totally can and I know that when I get into a good book nothing is going to get done at my house. This card goes along with the spoiler that we would get an exclusive item from eleanor & park by Rainbow Rowell.
eleanor & park Owlcrate original designed necklace – This is so great. I have not read the book before but I love the design and then having the what I’m assuming is a mixtape as a dangle is just awesome. All of the Rainbow Rowell books look so fun and easy to read I’m adding them to my want to read list!
Blue Star Coloring Adult Coloring Book (this is a special version just for OwlCrate) – I’m having a blast with all of the adult coloring that is all the rage now of course I was coloring in kiddie books with my boys before but now I can pull out some fun mommy books when it is coloring time.
Decomposition Notebook “Under the Sea” ($2.47) – I’m pretty sure I’ve said before that I love notebooks and mini ones are even better. I’m one that wants and needs to jot things down so I keep notepads all around my house, in my car, and in my purse etc. This one will be great for writing down any little thought or thing I need to remember. I think I’m going to leave it near my laptop and work on keeping a list of books that I want to check out in it. That way I will have a ready reference for all the great literariness that I want to read.
Chaptor Raptor button – So how many of you have told someone just one more chapter? My hubby actually said that to me this morning when I went to take a shower he said he was going to finish the chapter but then when I came out fully dressed he was still reading. Yep I’m pretty sure he read a couple more chapters.
Susanne Draws Golden Trio art print (an OwlCrate exclusive but other prints go for about $18 for a 10×8″ size) – We are huge Harry Potter Fans in our house so we like getting some new items. I love this one as it really represents the characters for me.
Hogwarts is my Home button by Taryn Draws – This is another OwlCrate exclusive for this month and is there to remind us that Hogwarts will always be there to welcome you home.
This was another exciting month for OwlCrate. I love that there are so many exclusive items to the box and that I am finding some new artists that I would never know about otherwise and getting some fun goodies at that same time. The book this month looks fun and like a classic teen romance which will be a perfect reference to the theme of this month.
Next month’s theme is Darkness and isn’t the theme card beautiful? I’m seriously in awe of the card and I can’t help but to keep looking up at it. To go along with the theme we will be getting a spooky and peculiar item from Out of Print based on Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. I love all of the Out of Print items I’ve ever gotten so I can’t wait. I’ve not read the books but I keep seeing the commercials for the movie and it looks really good so I’m sure the books will soon be on my want to read list.

Seems like a really good box this month but I am wondering what makes the coloring book a “special version”– looks like the same one that I puchased from Amazon last year…
Nancy this one is a smaller size then you will see in stores. I don’t know for sure what size is in store but I would think like a sheet of paper size so about 8.5×11″ but this one is 6.5×9.5″ so its shrunk down a bit. I’m sure it was so that it would fit in the box. The patterns still look great and it doesn’t have tons of pages with really intricate designs so the smaller size isn’t bad.
