My first look in.  The “EAT INDIE” totally grabbed me.  MOUTH’s mission is to bring attention to independent food products.

When I got the bag out of the box, I realized it actually said “EAT INDIE FOOD”.

Everything is wrapped individually in butcher paper and closed with a MOUTH sticker.

The big reveal.  OMG!!!  CANDIED. BACON. CARAMEL. CORN.  ‘Nuff said.

The box had an information sheet which gave an overview of each popcorn and location for the producers.White Truffle Pipcorn by Pipsnacks in Brooklyn, NY ($4.88):  This popcorn is made with mini kernels.  When popped, the shells break into very small pieces.  That, combined with the micro size, make this easier to digest than regular popcorn and gentler on your teeth.  The popcorn is sprinkled with truffle-infused oil and white truffle.  The scent of truffle is stronger than the flavor, which is fine by me because truffle can be overwhelming.  I just wanted a little more salt though.

Lime Fresco Popcorn by Live Love Pop in Dallas, TX ($4.25):  Like the Pipcorn, this is made with a limited ingredient list.  MOUTH describes this popcorn as zesty, and it is!  With the lime and salt, this made me want a margarita.  The lime isn’t too strong – think of a good salted, air popped corn and add a punch of lime on the finish.  This was a good snacking popcorn for me.

Candied Bacon Caramel Corn by Chunky Pig in Oakland, CA ($9.00):  YAASSSS!!!  The back of the bag said to “Break the Seal & Surrender to the Pig”.  I did, and this was everything I expected and then some.  Fluffy kernels tossed with Niman Ranch candied bacon, coated in pure Vermont maple syrup caramel, with a hint of cayenne in the background – it was just the right ratio of sweet/salty/smoky.  Begrudgingly, I shared this with my dad but almost didn’t get the bag back because it was so good.

Also included in the box was recipe for MOUTH’s summer cocktail, the Water Cooler.  It looks so refreshing and tasty.

I liked the popcorn that I received – they were flavor packed, and all were new-to-me brands.  If you couldn’t tell, the Chunky Pig caramel corn was my favorite.  That said, I feel that the value of this box was underwhelming when compared to the price of a monthly subscription ($18.13 vs $37.50).  I noticed that the White Truffle was sold as a 4-pack on the Pipsnacks site.  Had I received 4 bags, this would have brought the total value more in line with the subscription cost.  I do understand that there are costs associated with sourcing indie items, but this feels like a large discrepancy to me.  This was my first delivery, so I am hopeful that the next will be better from a pricing standpoint.  Regardless, I can’t wait to see what flavors are still to come.
