LitRx is a subscription box for book lovers, fan girls, and people who are in need of something new to read but “don’t really want to put on pants” to go to a book store.  I knew right from that description that LitRx was going to be fun for me!

Similarly, LitRx notes that its monthly boxes deliver the remedy for book hangover (and even its box states!).  What is book hangover, you ask?  I’ll use LitRx’s definition:  “It’s 4 am and you’ve just finished reading the last page of your book. You’ve got to go to work or school in just a few hours, but the remnants of the story have overtaken your thoughts. You can’t believe it’s over! And that’s when the book hangover kicks in.”  Yep.  Been there.   Let’s see what the remedy for book hangover looks like!

Opening the box, I was greeted by minty green tissue paper…nice and soothing, especially if you have a book hangover, right? 20160823_151538

Here’s a look at everything in this month’s box.  According to LitRx, “every month you’ll receive a new-to-you book, a coordinating hand-crafted fragrance from Book Scents and 2-4 items inspired by the book and tailor-made for literary lovers.” 20160823_151551

Here is the front of August’s information card.  It features the theme (Powerful Words) and gorgeous color pictures of all of the items in the box. 20160823_151603

The reverse of the information card lists off the contents for the box, including a detailed description and why the item was included (e.g., what part of the story it was inspired by, etc.).  What fun!

Pieces of Me by Carrigan Richards ($11.99):  OK.  So this is why I get book hangovers…I read this book in one day.  Hey, it’s the end of summer and I am not ashamed to admit that I curled up in a chair on the porch and devoured this book.  I did get up at some point and eat lunch, but otherwise, yeah – I was rapt in this book.  It’s a really well written story of a young woman who faces a tragedy, loses everything, and finds her way back.  The story is told partially in the present and partially in memories that the woman shares as she tries to work through what has happened to her.  It’s an easy read because the story flows so well, but there are a lot of ideas that you can really chew on too.

BookScentsCandle Rain + Roses Tin Candle.   I love this scented candle – it smells just as described…like roses and the earthy woods.  Book-inspired candles are just awesome!  Definitely adds another layer to the sensory experience of reading a good book.

Journal:  This item is a perfect companion to the book, as the young woman at the heart of the story is encouraged to write down her feelings and thoughts.  This pretty journal has an artist-designed cover with a beautiful positive message.

Inside the cover is a 2017 calendar.  The pages are blank and lined for all sorts of writing.  I’m personally a big fan of spiral-bound journals…I write so much better when the pages lie flat!

Planner Bookmark & Pen Holder ($10):  Oh my.  I so love this item.  It is an elastic ribbon strap to mark your place in a book or journal, but it has this cute little leather pouch that holds a pen!  So useful and so fun!  I can’t believe I never had one of these before, but now I want one for my journal, for my day planner, and for my paper calendar.  (Did I mention I’m obsessed with paper note taking?  Yeah – an all-paper girl here!)

LitRx subscription boxes start at $40/month shipped, with discounts for 3- and 6-month subscriptions.  As a book lover, I loved the idea of this box – not only do the book’s characters become my new friends, but I also get to enjoy a “piece” of the characters in the goodies that come with the book…it’s almost like bringing the book into my life.  Such a fun box!  I know book choices are often very personal, but I think that any book lover would be happy to try LitRx out!  This is the second time I’ve reviewed a LitRx box and both have been great!
