Beauteque offers two subscriptions featuring Asian beauty products delivered to your door monthly.  Products include makeup, skin care, body care, and more.  For $24 per month, your BB Bag comes with 6-8 full size products.  If you like masks, the Mask Maven subscription brings you 9-11 various masks monthly starting at $15.  The following is a review of the June Mask Maven, whose theme is Skincare Sundae.  This theme ties in with the June BB bag theme – Dessert for Your Skin.

My sweet group of masks.

mask info

The information card has an explanation of each item’s purpose and key ingredients.  For some products, there are also basic how to use directions.  Here’s the note from the front of the information card:

Hello Beauty,

This scrumptious collection is inspired by a delicious sundae!  Treat your skin to this batch of beautifying masks.  Just like a luscious layered sundae for skin, there are many tiers of goodness included.  Infused with honey, green tea and more, all topped off with strawberries, this is the perfect chance to treat your skin sweet this month!

XO,

The Beauteque Team

Lovemore Rosa Hybrida Whitening Mask ($2.20):  This sheet mask is made of 100% natural silk and is infused with rose essence.  Roses have several benefits for skin.  The antibacterial and astringent properties help to treat and soothe irritated skin.  Roses are also high in vitamin C, providing antioxidants to the skin.  The natural oils in roses lock in moisture.  And of course, roses are used in aromatherapy to enhance relaxation.  Too bad I don’t like their scent.  This mask will be gifted.

Lovemore Wine Yeast Mask ($2.20):  This mask is also made of 100% natural silk, but is infused with wine (sake) yeast to brighten and moisturize skin.  For generations, it has been noted how soft the hands of sake makers were, regardless of age.  Researchers found that this was due to the yeast which was full of anti-aging amino acids and vitamins.  That has been harnessed into this mask.  My face felt moisturized and softer after using the mask.  However, while the mask didn’t dry out, it didn’t have much serum and felt tighter on my face the longer I wore it.

Dr. Morita Green Tea & Amino Essence Moisturizing Facial Mask ($1.99):  Holy serum, Batman!  This mask was drenched to the point of dripping when taken out of the pack.  I actually had to squeeze some serum out of the mask to put it on.  The mask contains green tea and sodium hyaluronate to repair/protect skin while boosting moisture.  It also contains cucumber extract, which may explain the tremendous cooling effect I felt while the mask was on.  I felt like my face was in an ice bath, and my skin was very cool (actually cold) to the touch when I took the mask off.  This would be great after a day in the sun or for a sunburn.

Lus Essence Royal Jelly Mask ($?):  The antibacterial properties of royal jelly cleanse the skin while providng moisture.  It also brightens skin for a youthful appearance.

DayLight and Hue Propolis Mask ($?):  Propolis is a resin-like substance made by bees.  It has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties.  It also softens skin.  This mask is formulated to firm skin for a youthful look and feel.

no:hj Manuka Honey Mask ($2.25):  Manuka honey has been used to treat wounds due to its antibacterial properities.  In this mask, it helps to cleanse and heal acne prone skin.  It also contains witch hazel, a natural astringent.  I’ve received no:hj masks before and like their quality.  The sheet is durable and the package is simple, but elegant.

A’Pieu Melon and Milk Mask ($?):  This refreshing and moisturizing mask contains milk protein extracts to leave your complexion softer and brighter.

Dermal Strawberry Mask ($1.99):  I’ve received Dermal collagen essence masks before, but this a first for the strawberry version.  The mask itself is your standard mask – Dermal masks are a little thicker/durable than some.  Strawberries have Vitamin C, a natural antioxidant.  This mask uses that to nourish and brighten skin while adding hydration.    The strawberry scent smells artificial at first, but either it wore off or I got used to it (honestly, I fell asleep).  The mask was still slightly damp the next morning and my skin looked dewy and fresh.

mask macaron

Hanaka Macaron Facial Mask – Hyaluronic Acid ($4.00):  How adorable is the macaroon container?!?  Love it.  This is a wash off mask.  It contains hyaluronic acid to hydrate the skin.  Apply an even layer, wait 15-20 minutes, and rinse.  It’s almost too cute to use, but give me a week to get over the kawaii factor.

I didn’t calculate a value for this month’s Mask Maven, but it does exceed the cost of the monthly subscription.  Most of the masks are not currently available in the Beauteque shop.  For those with prices listed, but not linked, the prices are based on similar masks from the same brand on Beauteque’s site.   I thought the Skincare Sundae theme  was cute and that most of the products tied in – remember, Asian ice cream flavors are a bit more exotic.  What did you think of the June Mask Maven?  Leave a comment and let me know.
On a Side Note:  Before trying any Asian cosmetic subscription, expect that most information on the package will be in the native language.  That said, more and more brands are including directions/ingredients in English, and information can also be found in English on the majority of brands’ websites (you may have to choose a brand’s global or US site).  Secondly, a large number of products focus on brightening or whitening the skin.  As a person of color, I have not seen my skin color change.  Instead, I’ve experienced that my skin tone gets evened out after prolonged use.  However, your results may be different.  And lastly, many products contain ingredients which are animal-derived, so these may not be an option if you are vegan.  You can also check out cosDNA.com to see if the ingredients for the product are listed there.
