snack box

Snack Fever is a monthly subscription box that delivers all your favorite Korean snacks, as well as other hard-to-find Korean treats. Each month, subscribers will get 5 to 12 Korean snacks and treats, depending on their subscription. Snack Fever is available in three boxes, the mini box, the original box, and the deluxe box, and subscriptions are $12, $20, and $40, respectively, every month.  Going forward, the Snack Fever boxes will be themed.  July’s theme is 1 Year with Snack Fever.

As always, there’s a massive amount of food in the deluxe box.  But, I want to talk about the new look of the Snack Fever Box.  Are those choco pies circling the logo?  And I love the “Straight Outta Koreatown” attitude on the edge of the box.  This ties in with the new liner paper that was introduced last month.

snack note

축하해요 (chook-ha-hae-yo)!  Congratulations!  This is the 1st anniversary box, and Snack Fever included a thank you note to subscribers.  Also, there is a teaser for the theme to the August box.  Got your guess in?  OK, I’ll spill the beans (Snack Fever already told on instagram) – the August theme is Viki Binge!  Get your K-drama fix on while munching on great snacks.  Here’s the note:

Hello Snack Fever Family!

As we celebrate our first year anniversary, I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support and love so far.

It feels like yesterday when David and I started SnackFever as a challenge with just a couple of hundred dollars.  We spent many days and nights packing the boxes from our office.

We’ve made many mistakes along the way, but we’ve learned a great deal, too.  I always appreciate your honest feedback about what we are doing well and where we need to make improvements.  We’re so blessed to have such a supportive community.

Be excited as we explore and enjoy the world of K-snacks, food, and everything else together!  There’s nowhere to go but up for SnackFever!

With love

Jo Jang

Everything in the July box.  Seriously, how does it all fit?!?

Shout out to Jo and David for making my box!  There was a coupon for Glow Recipe and a flier for the movie KTown Cowboys (check out the trailers).

Jayone Chicken Macho Wasabi Chips:  Why couldn’t I get the Spicy Bulgogi flavor from the Original box?  Kinda jealous of Brandy now because I absolutely cannot stand wasabi.  So these will be saved for my dad.

Haitai Shindangdong Tteokbokki Chips:  Tteokbokki is one of my favorite dishes.  It’s rice cake stir fried in gochujang and so yummy.  These chips are shaped to look like the rice cake, and the flavor is close to the dish.  Not as spicy but just as tasty.

Lotte Waffle Mate:  The tagline on the box made me giggle.  “Be my soul mate!  Be my waffle mate!”  This looks like a bit of waffle cone and tastes like it too.  A good snack on its own or top with some ice cream.

Lotte Milk Caramel:  I’ve received these before, and they’re always enjoyable.  These are a milky caramel.

Lotte Strawberry Milkis:  This is an interesting drink.  It’s sort of a strawberry yogurt-y soda.  This wasn’t my favorite drink.  I thought it was overly sweet and would have preferred more of the yogurt flavor.

20160814_183707

J1 Aloe Drink:  Now, this was more in line with my tastes.  The aloe juice is enriched with Vitamin C.  This wasn’t overly sweet and had a fresh, fruity flavor.  The cloudiness that you see in the glass is actually aloe pulp – pulp is common in Korean fruit drinks.

Otaste Jjawang Rice Cup:  I keep instant jjajangmyun on hand in my house as a quick meal.  This instant cup isn’t noodle based, it’s rice with jjajang sauce.  This will be a nice change up, and I can’t wait to dig in.  If you’re new to Korean cuisine, jjajang sauce is a black bean sauce with various diced vegetables.

SDC Food Slim Blueberry Chips:  These chips are made from a blend of rice and corn, giving them a light and crispy texture.  They are infused with blueberry flavor (contain blueberry powder, squeezed blueberry, and blueberry flavor).  I’m saving these for a midday snack when I need a little sweetness to finish out the work day.

Crown Caramel Maple Chips:  This smelled like a pancake breakfast when I opened the bag; the combination of butter and maple syrup just filled the air.  The C-shaped puffs are fairly large, and their texture reminded me of a denser cheese puff.  The maple taste came through nicely and even my dogs loved these (I dropped one).

Haitai Green Grape Candy:  OMG!  I think I like these more than the plum candy.  This is a green grape flavored hard candy.  The flavor was on point and not as artificial tasting as many American grape candies.  Your Korean food word of the day is 포도 (poh doh) or grape.

Ottogi Cooked Rice:  2 minutes to perfectly cooked white rice… yes, please!  This saves me from washing rice and waiting for it to cook.

Ottogi Kimchi Tuna Sauce:  Heat this and add to your rice bowl for a complete meal.  The sauce contains kimchi, mushrooms, and tuna.

**BONUS Items**

  • Snack Fever Magnet
  • PVC Keychain:  He looks like an officer in the Korean miliary, maybe a Hasa (하사) or sargeant.
  • Holika Holika Baby Pet Magic Mask Sheet – Whitening Seal:  This mask is designed to brighten dull skin and reduce the appearance of dark spots while making you look like a cute baby seal.

Me in all my seal glory.

I thought this was a great anniversary box. Snack Fever provided some favorites from past boxes and new items for subscribers to try.  While I’m not a fan of wasabi and won’t eat the Chicken Macho, I am happy with the rest of my box items.  And, I got to relax with a facial mask.  I can’t wait to see what this next year brings.  축하해요 to Snack Fever!  And, 잘 먹겠습니다 (jal moke get sum ni da) or eat well to my fellow subscribers!
