Circa 1955 Candle Subscription Box Review – July 2016

Circa 1955 is a new candle subscription box that sends candles that can make your home smell like The Happiest Place on Earth – Disneyland! Each month you’ll receive 2 candles in scents inspired by the attractions, treats, and atmospheres from the Disney Parks. They have 2 options to choose from: The Signature Candle Box is $20 and comes with two, 6.5oz candles in a tin container; The Grand Candle Box is $35 and comes with two, 10.5oz candles in a glass container. Subscriptions will automatically renew until you cancel, and shipping is extra.

I grew up in Southern California and once a year we would make the 36 mile trip to Disneyland for a day filled with fun and magic so I was kind of giddy when I found this in my mailbox and couldn’t wait to see which fragrances were inside!

I found a box within a box.

And what a pretty box it is! These candles are made by Lux Illume and I wanted to know what set them apart, so I found the following on their website:

Our candles are made in extremely small batches from 100% US grown, GMO free soy wax.  We use high quality fragrances and lead-free wicks.  Soy candles are known for burning cleaner and longer than their paraffin counterparts.  We don’t outsource any part of our process. These are made by Disney fans, for Disney fans.

In the spirit of serving others, we donate a portion of profits each month to the “Give Kids the World” charity. This amazing organization specializes in providing children facing life-threatening illnesses the opportunity to enjoy a  magical vacation in Central Florida.

I received 2 cards in my box. The first one gave instructions on how to burn the candles properly.

I also received a personalized card that welcomed me the Circa 1955 family and also listed the two scents that I received. 

I love the Circa 1955 logo! Both of my candles were in cute tins. These scents are exclusive to subscribers, but 2 months after a scent debuts, it will be available for purchase on the Lux Illume site.

First up is Main Street Marceline (which IS available, but in a larger size, here). I wasn’t sure who Marceline was, but it turns out it isn’t a person, but a place. Marceline, Missouri is where Walt Disney lived as a child! This scent is inspired by the smells that emanate from the sweet shops at the park. It smells like burnt sugar, or cotton candy, or melted marshmallows. It was love at first sniff! This is pure heaven. It is super sweet and made my house smell good. I briefly misplaced the lid and every time I walked past the candle I would catch a whiff that transported me back to a magical place and time.

Next we have Beach Resort, which is a clean, fresh scent that is perfect for summer. It has notes of aloe and green clover and made my house smell like I had been cleaning all day, even though I was actually reading on the couch. Hey, that’s what summers are for!

I am in love with these candles! They both had good throw. I burned them in my kitchen and the scent drifted through to my living room. They even smell good cold! I plan on going to Disneyland this winter so it is helping me get in the mood for my trip but you don’t have to be a Disney fan to enjoy this subscription. Anyone who loves a great smelling candle would appreciate it too!
