Bocandy August 2016 Subscription Box Review (Taste Box) & Coupon

Bocandy is a monthly subscription box that sends international, craft, and indie candies and snacks. They ship imported, exotic, new, and hard-to-find candy and food products each month. They now offer 4 monthly boxes and 1 quarterly box; either the Taste Box ($15), the Asian Candy Box ($21), the Big Snack Box ($21), the Premium Box ($40), or the quarterly Chocolate Box ($40). Shipping is free to the US, its territories, its military bases, and Puerto Rico; all others will pay shipping.

With the exception of the quarterly chocolate box, Bocandy is available in 1, 3, 6, or 12 month terms and all subscriptions will automatically renew until cancelled. The Chocolate Box is available in 1, 2, 4, or 6 quarterly options. This is a review of the Taste Box.

Everything in my Taste Box! The box was sturdy and all of the items arrived in perfect condition. Bocandy states that this box will have a retail value of $15 rather than a set number of snacks. I received 7 different items for August. There were no inserts inside and Bocandy doesn’t offer the items for individual sale. I found various prices (and in some cases, no prices) for these items on the internet and guessed the value for others.

Kasugai Milk Candy ($1.89) Imagine that you were sucking on a hard candy made of sweetened condensed milk. This bag contained 20 individually wrapped delicious candies from Japan. Loved them!

Lubimka Megehka Bulgarian Honey Cookie ($1.50) Um, I think this one was past its “best by” date. It is supposed to be a soft cookie covered in chocolate. Instead, it was dry and stale with a bland chocolate-like coating. The back of the package says that the “best before” date is 12042016. In Europe, they put the month before the day, so this was best before April 12, 2016, not December 4, 2016.

Orion Mini Cola Candy ($1.30) Little candies that taste like Coca Cola with just a hint of Sprite. This has that citric acid zing to it, which makes everything taste like lemon to me.

Kabaya Juicy Cider Candy ($1?) This is a ramune (lemon-lime soda) flavored candy with a slightly chalky consistency. There are 15 pieces in the container and each one is the size of a Wonka Bottle Cap.

Meisan Popping Cola Candy (89¢) This packet contained grape flavored pop rock candy along with ramune flavored hard candies. I have always liked pop rocks but there was only about a teaspoon of candy in the bag.

JJ’s Sweets Sea Salt Cocomels ($1.75) My favorite item this month were these organic, dairy-free caramels made with coconut milk! I received the Sea Salt flavor which is buttery and smooth. There were 5 individually wrapped caramels in the bag. Luckily my local Whole Foods Market carries them so I will grab some the next time I go.

Byrd’s Famous Georgia Peach Cookies ($2.81) Straight from Savannah, Georgia comes these bite sized cookies. They are a shortbread type of cookie with a very sweet peach flavor and are covered in powdered sugar. I would like these more if they didn’t have citric acid in them, which makes them taste like peach lemonade to me. These are supposed to be naturally flavored but they have an overly sweet peach candy flavor and the citric acid leaves a sour taste. Sweet and sour cookies.

This month’s Bocandy had fun and tasty candies but the cookies were a miss for me (my family wouldn’t eat them either). While I was able to find all of these items on the internet, some of them were not currently in stock so I guess you could say they aren’t widely available. The value for August was around $11.14, which is low so I hope they can send out a super fun (and higher value) box next month.
