Birchbox is a beauty sample subscription box with at least 5 new items to test out each month. Birchbox is $10 a month and formerly featured an extensive points/review system that they have removed in favor of 50 points total ($5 in the shop). You can find more about the Birchbox review program changes here.
The information card gives brief details on each item. You can visit Birchbox.com/MyBox to get more information on your individual samples. I noticed that Birchbox updated the header on the card to a gift with purchase offer.
The theme card discussed the inspiration for the box theme. I know it is the end of the summer when the cicadas are singing every night.
Birchbox thinks I am supercool. Anyone else received a fun label this month?
I am happy to see Acure!
Here is my August Birchbox. I am excited about the Coola item and Acure wipes.
The Acure Coconut + Argan Oil Cleansing Towelettes (12 wipes, $2.80) did an excellent of removing my makeup. It’s free of all the nasties that I try to avoid and full of good ingredients. Put the wipes in the fridge and use them after a hot August day.
I noticed that Birchbox explained why it selected three items on my account. The Coola Daydream Mineral Primer (.10 oz, $4.20) was selected for me because it “helps prevents redness and rosacea.” While I disagree that they feel the Coola Primer prevents rosacea and could not find the claim on the Coola website, it did work well on my skin. I am looking to change my primer, and this may be it.
Garfield is confused by the Oribe Apres Beach Wave and Shine Spray (1 oz, $4.59). I am too, Garfield, I am too.
It says on my account that it was selected because it is “good for your curly hair.” Seriously? My hair waves and curls on its own. Why would I use a spray that adds waves to my hair? It’s already there!
The R&Co Badlands Dry Shampoo (.25 oz, $3.18) was selected for me by Birchbox because I have thick hair. Brandy did a great job explaining it in her review. I’ll take it to the farm in case I ever decide to use it.
I received the Manna Kadar Bronzer Highlighter from the Manna Kadar Day Dream Palette ($5.50). The colors can be mixed together for a customized look.
I pressed down hard for the swatches. The highlighter is above the bronzer swatch.
Taking pictures with Garfield around was the best part of my Birchbox. I am flabbergasted that Birchbox marked that the beach wave spray is good for curly hair. I have no faith in their ability to match products to my profile if they are going to mark items for incorrect use. I will be using the wipes and primer from my box. The rest will go to the farm or to my sister. I will be ecstatic if the Coola Primer works out for me because I want to replace my current primer. My box is worth approximately $20.27.
