The roast this week is the Costa Rica Las Lajas Natural from Peixoto Coffee Roasters of Brazil. This is family-owned operation with a large footprint — they produce coffee on their own farm in Brazil, but they collect single origin beans from their partners around the world and roast them all in their Chandler, Arizona, facility.
The All-Star selections ship directly from the individual roasters and are packed in the roaster’s own commercial packaging. The Peixoto packaging provides lots of info on the growing conditions of the beans, and the back gives some insight on their long history in the coffee growing business.
These beans had a nice, vibrant tone to them, and the modest roast played well to the fruit flavors of the beans. I detected a prominent blueberry note at the onset, and the brew exhibits strong fruity notes throughout. The balance of sweet with a tiny bit of sour and tart created a pineapple-like flavor. A very drinkable cup that successfully melds a strong fruit presence with a full body.
