I received a heads up that this box might be a little scary for my seven year old. My teenage son assisted me with opening the box.

Here are the items in the June 1Up Box. Time to take a closer look!

Arkham Knight Pop! Figure
Arkham Knight Pop! Figure

Subscribers received one of four Batman; Arkham Knight POP! Vinyl Figures: Scarecrow, Harley Quinn, Joker or the Arkham Knight. T, age 17, begged his brother for the Arkham Knight Pop! figure. J, age 7, acquiesced.

PA Anna: We received the Arkham Knight Pop! Figure ($9.91). The figures are based on the fourth Batman Arkham game.

T (age 17):  We received the Arkham Knight POP! Figure from the “Batman: Arkham Knight” video game! Arkham Knight is the title villain/former sidekick to Batman, and the character was used in a very creative story (that he was actually Jason Todd, a former Robin). He is so cool! A very welcome addition to my POP! figure collection. There have been rumors during the past year that the Joker in the new “Suicide Squad” movie is actually Jason Todd, due to a Robin suit in “Batman v Superman” having bullet holes/burn marks in the same places that the Joker has circular scar marks. The director of “Suicide Squad” said at the San Diego Comic-Con that this was the most absurd rumor he has heard in regards to “Suicide Squad”(with a big ole friendly smile on his face). The wait for your favorite baddies is almost over, “Suicide Squad” hits the big screen August 5th! Batman: Arkham VR is set to release this October!

PA Anna: The Marksman Air Freshener is missing from our box.

T: This is a Deadshot air freshener! Deadshot (real name Floyd Lawton) is one of the lead characters in the upcoming “Suicide Squad” movie and is played by Will Smith. Deadshot is usually one of the leaders of the suicide squad in the comics, and it looks to be that way in the new movie too.

Brandy: Here’s the pic of my air freshener. It’s kinda cherry smelling like faux-brains.

Squad Pin and Paranormal Dog Tag
Squad Pin and Paranormal Dog Tag

PA Anna: The 1UP Buddies look adorable as the Squad! The dog tag reminds me of a mix of the old and new Ghostbusters.

T: The pin isn’t mentioned in the description card, but I didn’t want it to get overlooked. The fox dude is cosplaying as Finn, and the panda is wearing a Jake style hood, both from “Adventure Time”.  I don’t have much to say about the Paranormal dog tag. It looks like a mashup of “Earthbound” and both the old and new “Ghostbusters” movies. I know it’s not but still.

Space Guardians Poster

PA Anna: The poster is the real winner in the July box. The cuteness! Less than a year’s wait for Guardians of the Galaxy 2! May I suggest rolling the poster next time to prevent a crease in the poster?

T: It’s Rocket Racoon and Groot! They look as cute as ever here. Groot has a nice POP! figure look to him. Rocket Racoon and Groot are set to appear in the new “Guardians of the Galaxy” movie, and Groot is said to appear as a walking baby Groot for at least a good portion of the movie. “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” is set to come out May 5, 2017.

"Super Smash Squad" Mashup T-Shirt
“Super Smash Squad” Mashup T-Shirt

PA Anna: The shirt isn’t exactly child friendly. Even T is not allowed to wear shirts that has women dressed in lingerie. While I understand the concept, I disagree with how the women are portrayed on a shirt that is marketed towards families.

T: Oh no. Ohhh, 1UP no what have you done??! My brother can’t wear this t-shirt! *Sigh* This was an interesting idea at least but definitely not appropriate for kids to wear. It’s the Mario gang and some of the members from the “Suicide Squad” movie. Mario is looking like the Joker. Bowser is wearing a Killer Croc style outfit (Clever of them to do that).  Princess Peach is dolled up as Harley Quinn who is the love interest for Mario and the Joker, respectively. That was well thought out. Luigi is geared up in a Deadshot suit. Whyyyyy, 1UP why, oh why, Princess Daisy is (barely) dressed as Enchantress. Katana would’ve been a much better choice for her!

Brandy: I also got this box (as evidenced by the photo of my air freshener) and this shirt went right into the donate pile. I would never ever let my 7 year old daughter wear this shirt. Ever. I also got the terrifying Scarecrow figure, which had to be spirited out of the house – way too scary for my kids. This box surprised me, because it’s normally so kid-friendly.

1Up Box did an awesome job with their squad theme. J loved the Space Guardians poster! T is happy with his POP! figure. It’s a fun way to build up excitement leading to the release of Suicide Squad. 1Up Box is a wonderful family geek/gamer box that can also be enjoyed by older fans.

Well these boxes aren’t always aimed towards kids. They’re usually for all ages. Like an E+ rating 10 years and above smh. And the shirt wasn’t even bad. Bad ass is what it is! Best shirt iv’e gotten since i’m a suicide squad and Mario fan so win-win for me. Disappointed in this review. My sister is 7 and she’s not even scared, she loved it lmao!
