ZBOX June 2016 Subscription Box Review

We received this box for our review. Hello Subscription may earn compensation via links in this post. Read the full disclosure

ZBOX is here! ZBOX is a geeky subscription box from the UK. The box is printed with their logo and classic faces from pop culture such as Deadpool, Cap, Boba Fett, and the Joker.

I always love how the lid of the box is printed on the underside!

June’s theme is Mutate. I expect to see X-Men represented! Sure enough, the featured art this month (printed on the box, the magazine cover, and the wearable) is an Apocalypse reference.

The ZBOX magazine is so well done. I love flipping through it; it has all sorts of articles and isn’t just limited to listing out what’s in the box. ZBOX has a new edition to their Threads subscription, featuring comics! There’s also lots of content in the magazine including an interview with the artist of the month’s featured design, and this theoretical battle between Magneto and Shredder.

The first thing I pulled out was this Donatello figure! ($12 USD) The Fabrikations series is by Funko, who also do the more commonly seen pop vinyls, but I think the Fabrikations are a nice change. The detail on these (I received Iron Man and Cap last month in the limited edition Civil War boxes) always blows me away.

When I first pulled out the hardcover copy of X-Men: Season One ($7 USD), I thought it was a trade (a collection of previously released comics sequenced together by story), but this is actually a brand new retelling of the X-Men origin story released in 2012. I like the art, and the writing is sharp, but the X-Men aren’t my favourite of the Marvel teams. Still, I thought this was a great introduction to those who maybe aren’t as familiar with them, and for people who are already fans it’s a different spin. I love that we were sent a hardcover copy!

This is the second month in a row we’ve received an Infinity figure — this time it’s Hulk ($10 USD). I wouldn’t mind, except that the Disney Infinity series is now cancelled, and this is outdated anyway — they’re on 3.0 (or were, before it got the axe). I still think they are fun to display, though!

X-Men Shirt ($10?) This month’s print features a tribute to the X-Men Apocalypse story, according to my friend Crystal. I’m not too familiar with the X-Men — which is why that comic is going to be handy to help me brush up!

June’s ZBOX had a total value of $39, which isn’t bad, but I am not too thrilled with another Infinity figure and would have preferred something else to bring up the quality of the box. However everything fit the Mutate theme really well!

It’s a reference to the newest X-Men film that just came out in May – there’s a mutant from Egypt or something. Like I said, I don;t really follow X-Men, ha!

I live in a 7 year old’s world. The first thing that came to mind when I read the theme Mutation is TMNT! Glad to see that they made it into the box. I love the t-shirt design although I have no clue what it means.
