Sew Sampler July 2016 Subscription Box Review

Sew Sampler Box is a quilting subscription box from Fat Quarter Shop that brings quilting goodies!  Signing up is a bit odd for this subscription – you pay a 99¢ membership fee and then you’ll be charged monthly when the subscription ships ($24.95 plus shipping – $4.95 US, $12 Canada, $16 everywhere else).

The items are wrapped in beautiful royal blue tissue. The box contains at least 5 curated items, like fabrics, threads, patterns, etc, which you’ll need when quilting.

The information card provides more details about the items in the box. Since not all sewing subscriptions provide a great information card, I am happy to see this!

The back of the card features fun activities each month. This month, it’s a word search puzzle!

There are also instruction and recipe cards, coupon code, and sticker included in this box. There’s also a block of the month “recipe” card and if you want to pick those up or past ones, they sell them for $1.48 (free shipping).

Fat Quarter Shop Exclusive Moonshine Tablerunner Pattern: These patterns are great user friendly patterns, very nicely printed, and easy to follow. Unfortunately it’s another oddly dimensioned table runner. This one just doesn’t do it for me! :/

Bonus! Moda Fabrics Quilt Block Needle Case ($4.48) This is a fantastic bonus – every needleworker of every kind needs a needle storage solution and as I most often stick mine in my fabric (BAD BAD BRANDY!) this is actually perfect for me. No I never use a minder or a solid case. But I’m likely to use this.

Lori Holt 8″ Pie Ruler Bee in my Bonnet ($11.95) I’ve never made a pie-wheel out of any fabric but this looks REALLY fun and you can do so many things with it!

Remember those buttons from last month? They can go right in the middle of the pie! Jen & I are going to start selecting fabric & a pattern for baby F’s quilt soon, I’m digging the pies.

Here’s the inside of the needlecase!

Sewline Butterfly Mechanical Pencil ($15.95) This is really neat – it has ceramic lead to make fine, erasable marks on your fabric. FQS is so smart.

Olfa Splash Rotary Cutter ($13.07) The only thing special about this is the color, which is a little odd. I guess if you lose yours it’s handy. Never hurts to have an extra cutter especially if you have some peeps over for slicing up fabric.

Petite Dixie Fat Eighth Roll Cluck Cluck Sew for Windham Fabrics ($19.98) The information card says this fat 1/8th roll is perfect for traditional and modern quilters, and I agree!

You can slice these further for strip quilting.

All the beautiful fabrics – I like the mix of country floral and mod – a lot! – and I’m dreaming what to make with it!
